Purpose: Bacterial community in dental plaque of elder people was analyzed to learn about the microhabitat composition and diversity.

Methods: Dental plaque samples were collected from 25 elders. PCR-based denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) was used to evaluate the microbial diversity by displaying PCR-generated 16SrDNA fragments that migrate at different distances, reflecting the different sequence of fragment. SPSS12.0 software was used to analyze the variance of genotypes between different groups of bacteria.

Results: Genotypes of bacteria in dental plaques in the root caries group was significantly more than the other two groups. Crown caries group and caries-free group had no significant difference.

Conclusions: The genetic diversity of the dental plaque microflora in the root caries group is significantly higher than coronal caries group and caries-free group.

Patient-reported outcomes of zirconia dental implants: a systematic review and future directions.

J Patient Rep Outcomes

January 2025

Division of Oral Surgery and Orthodontics, Department of Dental Medicine and Oral Health, Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria.

Purpose: Zirconia dental implants show excellent biocompatibility and tissue integration, low affinity for plaque, and favorable biomechanical properties. However, these objective measures do not adequately replicate the patient's perception. This systematic review evaluated the evidence on patient-reported outcome (PROs) in zirconia dental implant treatment.

Periodontitis is complex microbial plaque induced condition. In this study, HiOra herbal mouthwash widely marketed in India, achieved a 5-log reduction in standard fungi and bacterial strains within 60 min. Thereby demonstrating antibacterial and antifungal activity similar to chlorhexidine and accordance with the PN EN 1040 and EN 1650 standards.

Introduction: Toothbrushing, during which dental plaque is brushed off into the oral cavity, can increase the risk of aspiration pneumonia in older adults and intubated patients.

Methods: This study examined brushing methods to prevent the spread of bacteria in the oral cavity. Six participants who required assistance with brushing received toothbrushing from a dental hygienist.

Phenotype modification therapy using the novel semilunar flap with xenogeneic collagen matrix improves gingival phenotype, root coverage and increased keratinized tissue width. It also halts the progression of recession, enhances tissue resilience and improved plaque control sustainable over 3 years. Collagen matrix avoids second site surgery and hence less morbidity.
