Synthesis and antioxidant evaluation of coumarin-functionalised chitosan: A potent, non-toxic free radical scavenging compound.

Carbohydr Res

February 2025

Key Laboratory of Coastal Biology and Bioresource Utilization, Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yantai, 264003, China. Electronic address:

In the present study, we designed to link the coumarin molecule to chitosan via a triazole group and synthesized chitosan-coumarin derivatives, which were further quaternized in one step in order to further improve their solubility to obtain a second series of chitosan-coumarin ammonium salt derivatives. The structures of these chitosan derivatives were verified by FT-IR and H NMR. They were tested for their antioxidant activities.

Introduction: Asundexian is a reversible and selective inhibitor of activated factor XI. It is currently under investigation for the prevention of secondary stroke in at-risk patients; these patients are often characterised by advanced age, impaired organ function and comorbidities. This article summarises results from three Phase I studies that investigated the effects of age and sex (study 1), chronic kidney disease including end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) on dialysis and dialysis-free days (study 2) and Child-Pugh A and B liver disease (study 3) on the safety, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a single oral dose of asundexian 25 mg.

Probing the role of BrCl in benzotriazole transformation during seawater chlorination.

Water Res

January 2025

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory for Coast Ecology and Environmental Studies, College of the Environment and Ecology, Xiamen University, Xiamen 361102, China. Electronic address:

A common understanding attributes the formation of brominated disinfection by-products (Br-DBPs) in seawater chlorination to the conversion of hypochlorous acid to hypobromous acid (HOBr) by bromide. In this study, we reveal that bromine chloride (BrCl), mediated by both chloride and bromide in seawater, plays a dominant role in the transformation of 1H-benzotriazole (BTA) and 5-methyl-1H-benzotriazole (MBTA) and in the formation of brominated DBPs. Using anisole as a reference compound, the second-order rate constant for the reaction of BrCl with BTA was determined to be (2.

A Site-Specific Click Chemistry Approach to Di-Ubiquitylate H1 Variants Reveals Position-Dependent Stimulation of the DNA Repair Protein RNF168.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

Laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry of Macromolecules (LCBM), Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering (ISIC), EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Station 6, 1015, Lausanne, Switzerland.

Ubiquitylation of histone H2A at lysines 13 and 15 by the E3 ligase RNF168 plays a key role in orchestrating DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair, which is often deregulated in cancer. RNF168 activity is triggered by DSB signaling cascades, reportedly through K63-linked poly-ubiquitylation of linker histone H1. However, direct experimental evidence of this mechanism has been elusive, primarily due to the lack of methods to specifically poly-ubiquitylate H1.

The benzimidazole moiety in the title mol-ecule, CHNO, is almost planar and oriented nearly perpendicular to the triazole ring. In the crystal, C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a network structure. There are no π-π inter-actions present but two weak C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions are observed.
