Introduction: Zolpidem is the most widely prescribed hypnotic agent worldwide. This easy-access drug seems to have a high addictive potential among specific populations and is now listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as being as dangerous as benzodiazepines for dependence and abuse. Many side effects have been reported, but drug-induced mania is still extremely rare.
