Azo linked dye derivatives were synthesized and characterized by NMR, mass and elemental analysis. An excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) in hydroxy Schiff base has been analyzed, and found that two distinct ground state isomers of I and II are responsible for the observed dual emission. DFT calculation on energy, dipole moment, charge distribution of the rotamers in the ground and excited states support the ESIPT process. PES calculation indicates that the energy barrier for the interconversion of two rotamers is too high in the excited state than the ground state. By varying the addition of base concentration to hydroxy Schiff base, two isobestic points were found which confirm the equilibrium among the trans enol form, anion and the cis enol form. Fluorescence quenching with metal ions reveal that hydroxy Schiff base can be used as a new fluorescence sensor to detect the Cu(2+) ion.

Novel 3-sulfonamide pyrrol-2-one derivatives containing two sulfonamide groups were synthesized via a one-pot, three-component method using trifluoroacetic acid as a catalyst. Structural confirmation was achieved using spectroscopic techniques. The compounds were tested against four selected human carbonic anhydrase isoforms (hCA I, hCA II, hCA IX, and hCA XII).

Aldolases are crucial enzymes that catalyze the formation of carbon-carbon bonds in the context of the anabolic and catabolic pathways of various metabolites. The bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens N3 can use naphthalene as its sole carbon and energy source by using, among other enzymes, the trans-o-hydroxybenzylidenepyruvate (tHBP) hydratase-aldolase (HA), encoded by the nahE gene. In this study, we present the crystallographic structures of tHBP-HA in three different functional states: the apo enzyme with a phosphate ion in the active site, and the Schiff base adduct bound either to pyruvate or to the substitute with '(R)-4-hydroxy-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxobutanoate'(intermediate state).

Sulfonamide drugs were the original class of antibiotics, demonstrating the antibacterial potential of dithiocarbazate and thiosemicarbazone Schiff base derivatives of syringaldehyde and 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde. We synthesized unique Schiff bases via the condensation of the aldehydes with hydrazine derivatives, which allows for the easy synthesis of several related compounds. These Schiff base derivatives were tested for antileishmanial properties against the parasitic protozoan .

A novel Schiff base ligand (L), bearing NO donor sites, was derived from the condensation of 5-chloromethylisophthaldehyde and phenylpropanolamine (PPA). Mononuclear Co(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) complexes were synthesized and were characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis, H NMR, ESI-mass spectroscopy, molar conductance, and thermal and electrochemical studies. The thermal investigation revealed that the complexes were stable up to 150-250 °C and began to degrade in stages, resulting in the development of respective metal oxides.

The positioning of the hydroxy group plays a crucial role in the coordination of Schiff bases with copper ions and their antibacterial effectiveness. This potential is an area of interest for future exploration, although no specific studies have been conducted. This study aims to reveal the significance of the positioning of the hydroxy group in the ability of the Schiff base to coordinate with copper ion and its antibacterial efficacy against E.
