The reaction of an α-haloketone with a nucleophile has three reaction channels: carbonyl addition, direct substitution, and proton abstraction. DFT calculations for the reaction of PhCOCH(2)Br with OH(-) showed that there exists an addition/substitution TS on the potential energy surface, in which OH(-) interacts with both the α- and carbonyl carbons. The intrinsic reaction coordinate calculations revealed that the TS serves as the TS for direct substitution for XC(6)H(4)COCH(2)Br with an electron-donating X or a X less electron-withdrawing than m-Cl, whereas the TS serves as the TS for carbonyl addition for derivatives with a X more electron-withdrawing than m-CF(3). Trajectory calculations starting at respective TS indicated that the single TS can serve for the two mechanisms, substitution and addition, through path bifurcation after the TS for borderline substrates. The reaction is the first example of dynamic path bifurcation for fundamental reaction types of carbonyl addition and substitution.

Background: Current guidelines recommend preserving at least one of the bilateral pelvic flows in patients with aortoiliac aneurysms. The sandwich parallel graft, using commercially available devices, provides a viable option for patients who fall outside the instructions for use of iliac branch devices. However, gutter endoleak remains a significant challenge.

This paper performed a comprehensive study of the thermal nonequilibrium effects of CO/Ar mixtures with various degrees of N2 additions and probed the N2 relaxation behaviors via the CO rovibrational thermometry. The rovibrational temperature time histories of shock-heated CO/N2/Ar mixtures were measured via a laser-absorption technique, and the corresponding vibrational relaxation data were summarized at 1890-3490 K. The measured results were compared with predictions from the Schwartz-Slawsky-Herzfeld (SSH) formula and the state-to-state (StS) approach (treating CO and N2 as pseudo-species).

The studies conducted in this contribution are based on the analysis of the dynamics of a homogeneous network of five inertial neurons of the Hopfield type to which a unidirectional ring coupling topology is applied. The coupling is achieved by perturbing the next neuron's amplitude with a signal proportional to the previous one. The system consists of ten coupled ODEs, and the investigations carried out have allowed us to highlight several unusual and rarely related dynamics, hence the importance of emphasizing them.

In recent years, the introduction of memristors in discrete chaotic map has attracted much attention due to its enhancement of the complexity and controllability of chaotic maps, especially in the fields of secure communication and random number generation, which have shown promising applications. In this work, a three-dimensional discrete memristive hyperchaotic map (3D-DMCHM) based on cosine memristor is constructed. First, we analyze the fixed points of the map and their stability, showing that the map can either have a linear fixed point or none at all, and the stability depends on the parameters and initial state of the map.

The estimation of vessels' centerlines is a critical step in assessing the geometry of the vessel, the topological representation of the vessel tree, and vascular network visualization. In this research, we present a novel method for obtaining geometric parameters from peripheral arteries in 3D medical binary volumes. Our approach focuses on centerline extraction, which yields smooth and robust results.
