As highway tunnel operations continue over time, structural defects, particularly cracks, have been observed to increase annually. Coupled with the rapid expansion of tunnel networks, traditional manual inspection methods have proven inadequate to meet current demands. In recent years, machine vision and deep learning technologies have gained significant attention in civil engineering for the detection and analysis of structural defects.

Mapping simulated visual field defects with movie-viewing pupil perimetry.

Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmol

January 2025

Experimental Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Helmholtz Institute, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Purpose: Assessing the quality of the visual field is important for the diagnosis of ophthalmic and neurological diseases and, consequently, for rehabilitation. Visual field defects (VFDs) are typically assessed using standard automated perimetry (SAP). However, SAP requires participants to understand instructions, maintain fixation and sustained attention, and provide overt responses.

Objectives: To demonstrate corneal remodeling after corneal allograft intrastromal ring segment (CAIRS) with an anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

Design: A prospective observational single-center study.

Methods: This observational study included keratoconus patients who underwent CAIRS implantation into a stromal tunnel.

This study presents a cutting-edge imaging technique for special unmanned vehicles (UAVs) designed to enhance tunnel inspection capabilities. This technique integrates ghost imaging inspired by the human visual system with lateral inhibition and variable resolution to improve environmental perception in challenging conditions, such as poor lighting and dust. By emulating the high-resolution foveal vision of the human eye, this method significantly enhances the efficiency and quality of image reconstruction for fine targets within the region of interest (ROI).

Two key series of discoveries about the hippocampus are described. One is the discovery of hippocampal spatial view cells in primates. This discovery opens the way to a much better understanding of human episodic memory, for episodic memory prototypically involves a memory of where people or objects or rewards have been seen in locations "out there" which could never be implemented by the place cells that encode the location of a rat or mouse.
