Abnormal shock is a major cause of chronic and overuse injuries to all aspects of the lower extremity. The two major causes of abnormal shock are (1) decreased fat pad under the calcaneus and (2) dysfunction of the subtalar joint pronation mechanism during contact. Enough literature now exists to indicate that podiatrists should provide prophylactic therapy for patients that exhibit abnormal shock during contact before symptomatology in the lower extremity or spine exhibits itself.

Clarifying the inceptive pathophysiology of hypertensive heart disease helps to impede the disease progression. Through coarctation of the infrarenal abdominal aorta (AA), we induced hypertension in minipigs and evaluated physiological reactions and morpho-functional changes of the heart. Moderate aortic coarctation was achieved with approximately 30 mmHg systolic pressure gradient in minipigs.

Septic patients are routinely exposed to endogenously released and exogenously administered catecholamines, which may alter cardiac function and perfusion causing ischemia. Early during human septic shock, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decreases but normalizes in survivors over 7-10 days.
