The objective of this study was to review how cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is associated with hypertension and cognitive decline, specifically regarding sex differences in this association. Strong evidence supports the associations between hypertension and cognitive decline, hypertension and CSVD, as well as CSVD and cognitive decline in both women and men. Sex-stratified analyses show that compared to men, hypertension leads to worse cognitive decline in women likely due to its stronger association with CSVD in women.

Venous hypertension due to anatomical venous insufficiency (superficial or deep venous valvular reflux and venous obstruction) and/or functional venous insufficiency (calf dysfunction, dependent edema, lymphatic dysfunction, elevated central venous pressures, etc.) leads to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and its sequelae. The most severe clinical manifestation of CVI is venous leg ulcer (VLU), which leads to substantial morbidity and disability.

This disorder is often associated with anxiety, nociceptive disorders, and pain. While medical treatment generally focuses on treating the symptoms rather than addressing the underlying causes, traditional medicine is sometimes used as an alternative.

Dried blood spot sampling offers a scalable strategy to close diagnostic gaps and improve global surveillance for cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome. However, assay performance and the extent of validity vary widely between biomarkers used in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic health assessment under different settings and have not been well described. To fill this gap, we conducted a systematic search of the literature and a narrative synthesis through April 2024 and included reports with laboratory or field validation measuring biomarkers that can be used in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic health assessment.
