Unusual presentation of esophageal tuberculosis: a case study.

BMC Infect Dis

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Treatment Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University, 368 Yehai Road, Haikou, 570311, China.

Background: Esophageal ulcers can arise not only from malignant lesions but also from benign diseases, such as tuberculosis. These ulcers may mimic the radiological features of esophageal malignancy or tuberculosis on PET/CT, leading to diagnostic challenges.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a month-long history of progressive painful swallowing, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Prognostic value of [F]FDG PET/CT in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Nuclear Medicine, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, 81 Irwon-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, 06351, Republic of Korea.

The study investigates the prognostic value of [F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). A total of 346 IPF patients who underwent FDG PET/CT between 2007 and 2020 were analyzed. Pulmonary FDG uptake [target to background ratio (TBR)] was binarized by optimal cut-off value based on survival analysis.

Nuclear Medicine Imaging in Epilepsy.

Radiographics

January 2025

From the Department of Radiology, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, 3188 Bellevue Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45219 (A.S., A.T.T., B.W.M., L.L.W., J.L.S.); and Department of Radiology, Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH (A.T.T.).

Approximately one-third of patients with focal epilepsy have medically refractory focal epilepsy (MRFE), which significantly impacts their quality of life. Once a seizure focus is identified and determined to be in the noneloquent cortex, it can be surgically resected with the goal of freedom from seizures and minimal neurocognitive deficit. During noninvasive (phase I) presurgical planning, functional (nuclear) imaging and structural imaging are complementary in the accurate localization of the epileptogenic zone (EZ).

Background/aim: The present study aimed to assess the relationship between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) on F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computed tomography (F-FDG-PET/CT) and the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) in patients with soft-tissue sarcomas (STSs).

Patients And Methods: The present single-center retrospective observational study included patients who underwent F-FDG-PET/CT and for whom serum albumin levels, height, and body weight were measured prior to therapeutic intervention.

Results: A total of 81 patients were included in the study.

Texture analysis generates image parameters from F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT). Although some parameters correlate with tumor biology and clinical attributes, their types and implications can be complex. To overcome this limitation, pseudotime analysis was applied to texture parameters to estimate changes in individual sample characteristics, and the prognostic significance of the estimated pseudotime of primary tumors was evaluated.
