Objective: To investigate gene mutations associated with three different types of corneal dystrophies (CDs), and to establish a phenotype-genotype correlation.
Methods: Two patients with Avellino corneal dystrophy (ACD), four patients with lattice corneal dystrophy type I (LCD I) from one family, and three patients with macular corneal dystrophy type I (MCD I) were subjected to both clinical and genetic examinations. Slit lamp examination was performed for all the subjects to assess their corneal phenotypes. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. The coding regions of the human transforming growth factor β-induced (TGFBI) gene and carbohydrate sulfotransferase 6 (CHST6) gene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subjected to direct sequencing. DNA samples from 50 healthy volunteers were used as controls.
Results: Clinical examination showed three different phenotypes of CDs. Genetic examination identified that two ACD subjects were associated with homozygous R124H mutation of TGFBI, and four LCD I subjects were all associated with R124C heterozygous mutation. One MCD I subject was associated with a novel S51X homozygous mutation in CHST6, while the other two MCD I subjects harbored a previously reported W232X homozygous mutation.
Conclusions: Our study highlights the prevalence of codon 124 mutations in the TGFBI gene among the Chinese ACD and LCD I patients. Moreover, we found a novel mutation among MCD I patients.

Aim: To assess the possibility of using different large language models (LLMs) in ocular surface diseases by selecting five different LLMS to test their accuracy in answering specialized questions related to ocular surface diseases: ChatGPT-4, ChatGPT-3.5, Claude 2, PaLM2, and SenseNova.
Methods: A group of experienced ophthalmology professors were asked to develop a 100-question single-choice question on ocular surface diseases designed to assess the performance of LLMs and human participants in answering ophthalmology specialty exam questions.
Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness of mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant mitoquinone (MitoQ) and nontargeted antioxidant idebenone (Idb) in alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction in corneal endothelial cells (CEnCs).
Methods: In vitro experiments were conducted using immortalized normal human corneal endothelial cells (HCEnC-21T; SVN1-67F) and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) cells (SVF5-54F; SVF3-76M). Cells were pretreated with MitoQ or Idb and then exposed to menadione (MN) with simultaneous antioxidant treatment.

Methods: The DEKS is a randomized, clinical trial to assess graft success and endothelial cell density (ECD) 1 year after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) using corneas from donors with versus without diabetes in a 1:2 minimization assignment. Diabetes severity in the donor is assessed by medical history, postmortem HbA1c, and donor skin advanced glycation end-products and oxidation markers.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 900 patients (1,743 eyes) diagnosed with FECD at a tertiary referral center in Thailand between January 2017 and June 2023. Demographic, clinical, and surgical data were analyzed, focusing on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central corneal thickness (CCT), endothelial cell density (ECD), surgical interventions, and graft survival rate.
