Fertility concerns for the aging male.

Published: September 2011

Because of many societal factors, the number of men over the age of 35 desiring to conceive children has increased over the past 40 years. The purpose of this review is to identify the mechanisms of aging on male fertility, to evaluate the genetic risk for the offspring, and to provide counseling for the older male. Most evidence suggests trends that increased paternal age has negative effects on fertility and some genetic risk for offspring, but the age at which the risk develops and the magnitude of risk are poorly defined.

Department of Neurology, National Center for Neurological Disorders, National Clinical Research Centre for Aging and Medicine, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China (X.C., L.H., Y.L., Yiran Zhang, X.L., S.L., L.Y., Q.D.).

Background: Whether it is effective and safe to extend the time window of intravenous thrombolysis up to 24 hours after the last known well is unknown. We aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of tenecteplase in Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large/medium vessel occlusion within an extended time window.

Methods: Patients with ischemic stroke presenting 4.

Objective: Serum uric acid (SUA) may play positive roles in diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as osteoporosis (OP). Nevertheless, the specific impact of SUA levels on both bone mineral density (BMD) and the risk of OP remains uncertain. Considering such information crucial for clinicians when making decisions about urate-lowering therapy (ULT), we sought to fill this gap by conducting dose-response meta-analyses.

Introduction: With the intensification of global aging, health management for the older adult has become a significant societal concern. Addressing challenges such as data diversity, health status complexity, long-term dependence, and data privacy is crucial for predicting older adult health behaviors.

Methods: This study designs and implements a smart older adult care service model incorporating modules like multimodal data fusion, data loss processing, nonlinear prediction, emergency detection, and privacy protection.

Objectives: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes are associated with poor walking endurance, a marker of physical function. We aimed to examine the long-term effects of metformin or intensive lifestyle intervention in adults at high risk of T2D on their 6-min walk test (6MWT) performance.

Methods: Participants were randomized in the 3-year Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) to one of the three groups: lifestyle intervention, metformin, or placebo, and were subsequently followed in the DPP Outcomes Study.

Plasma phospho-tau217 as a predictive biomarker for Alzheimer's disease in a large south American cohort.

Alzheimers Res Ther

Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, 630 West 168th Street, New York, NY, 10032, USA.

Background: Blood-based Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers have been increasingly employed for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic monitoring purposes, due to accuracy in distinguishing AD pathophysiologic process. Compared to other p-tau isoforms, plasma p-tau217 exhibits stronger associations with AD hallmarks in CSF and brain. However, most studies have been conducted in non-Hispanic Whites, limiting our understanding of the performances and utility of these biomarkers across ethnicities.
