A series of rhenium complexes with acetylamino- and trifluoroacetylamino-containing 1,10-phenanthroline ligands have been synthesized, characterized and their photophysical and electrochemical properties studied. These complexes were found to show significant UV-vis and emission changes on addition of CN(-), F(-) and AcO(-) anions. Their reactivity towards CN(-), F(-) and AcO(-) anions, was also investigated by UV-vis, emission and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The reaction product between the trifluoroacetylamino-containing 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and the CN(-) anion has also been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a critical cardiovascular event with multifaceted etiology, involving several genetic and environmental factors. It is essential to understand the function of plasma metabolites in the development of MI and unravel its complex pathogenesis.
Methods: This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to investigate the causal relationships between plasma metabolites and MI risk.

The complexity of the aquatic environment scenario, including the impact of urban wastewater, together with the huge number of potential hazardous compounds that may be present in waters, makes the comprehensive characterization of the samples an analytical challenge, particularly in relation to the presence of organic micropollutants (OMPs). Nowadays, the potential of high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for wide-scope screening in environmental samples is out of question. Considering the physicochemical characteristics of OMPs, the coupling of liquid (LC) and gas chromatography (GC) to HRMS is mandatory.

As an important component of N-linked glycoproteins, the core pentasaccharide is highly crucial to the potential application prospect of glycoprotein. However, the gas phase conformation study is a challenging one due to the size and complexity of the molecule, together with the necessity to rely on quantum chemistry modeling for relevant energetics and structures. In this paper, the structures of the trisaccharides and core pentasaccharides in N-linked glycans in the gas phase were constructed by a three-step tree-based (TSTB) sampling.

Glycan is a crucial class of biological macromolecules with important biological functions. Functional groups determine the chemical properties of glycans, which further affect their biological activities. However, the structural complexity of glycans has set a technical hurdle for their direct identification.

Hyaluronic acid (HA), which contains multiple carboxyl, hydroxyl, and acetylamino groups and is an agent that targets tumors, has drawn great attention in supramolecular diagnosis and treatment research. It can not only assemble directly with macrocyclic host-guest complexes through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions but also can be modified with macrocyclic compounds or functional guest molecules by an amidation reaction and used for further assembly. Macrocycles play a main role in the construction of supramolecular drug carriers, targeted imaging agents, and hydrogels, such as cyclodextrins and cucurbit[]urils, which can encapsulate photosensitizers, drugs, or other functional guest molecules via host-guest interactions.
