Twelve isoquinoline alkaloids including two new nitro-containing tetrahydroprotoberberines, (-)-2,9-dihydroxyl-3,11-dimethoxy-1,10-dinitrotetrahydroprotoberberine (1) and (+)-4-nitroisoapocavidine (2), were isolated from the whole plant of Corydalis saxicola Bunting. The structures of the new compounds were established by spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence. The inhibitory activity of these isolates against cholinesterase and canine parvovirus were evaluated. Compounds 1 and 1A, (+)-1-nitroapocavidine (5), berberine (8), palmatine (9), dehydrocavidine (10), and sanguinarine (11) showed potent inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase with IC(50) values of less than 10 µM, while only compound 1 possessed weak activity against canine parvovirus. Structure-activity studies demonstrated that the nitro substituents at ring A in the tetrahydroprotoberberines led to an increase in the anti-acetylcholinesterase activity.

Arsenic is a common toxic heavy metal contaminant that is widely present in the ocean, and seaweeds have a strong ability to concentrate arsenic, posing a potential risk to human health. This study first analyzed the arsenic content in two different seaweeds and then used an innovative method to categorize the seaweeds into low-arsenic and high-arsenic groups based on their arsenic exposure levels. Finally, a non-targeted metabolomic analysis based on mass spectrometry was conducted on seaweed from different arsenic exposure groups.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting both sexes, but differences exist between male and female in clinical manifestations, functional impact of symptoms and hormonal influences. Therefore, representativeness of females in PD trials indirectly determines the external validity of the clinical research in this field.
Objective: To estimate the representativeness of female in infusion therapy trials for advanced PD.

The development of innovative therapeutic strategies that combine multiple treatment modalities is essential for effective cancer therapy. In this study, we engineered berberine (BER)-loaded mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) nanoparticles (BER-MPDA) to enhance anti-tumor efficacy through synergistic chemotherapy and photothermal therapy (PTT). The mesoporous structure of MPDA allowed for a high loading capacity of BER, a natural isoquinoline alkaloid with known anticancer properties.

Introduction: In Poland, not all forms of device-aided therapies for advanced Parkinson's Disease (APD) are currently available.
Material And Methods: We aimed to produce a consensus recommendation from Polish movement disorders experts after discussing gaps in the APD care pathway in Poland.
Results: Rescue therapy with apomorphine (APO) PEN injection and levodopa-entacapone-carbidopa intestinal gel infusion are not included in Poland's Specialist Therapeutic Programme, and are thus not reimbursed.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a potentially fatal vascular inflammatory disease characterized by infiltration of various inflammatory cells. The GABA-A receptor is expressed in many inflammatory cells such as macrophages and T cells and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Therefore, the GABA-A receptor may become a potential therapeutic target for abdominal aortic aneurysms.
