We have developed a single step microfabrication method to prepare constriction microstructures on a PCB master by controlling the etching time of two microchannels separated by a finite distance that is easily attainable using imagesetters widely available in the printing industry. PDMS replica of the constriction structures present sieving microstructures (microsieves) that could be used for size-dependent trapping of microspheres, biological cells and the formation of water-in-oil droplets.

Molecular layer deposition (MLD) of ethylene glycol-alucone (EG-alucone) on the Nafion cation exchange membrane is investigated to understand its impact on the morphology of the composite and consequent enhancement of ion transport selectivity. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Density functional theory, and Doppler broadening positron annihilation spectroscopy are comprehensively employed to examine the morphology of the composite, particularly the engineered interface between EG-alucone and Nafion. These studies reveal the diffusion and subsequent reaction of the Lewis-acidic trimethyl aluminum precursor with the polymer substrate during MLD.

Recyclable construction waste can be used as a low-cost material to reduce stormwater pollution caused by various pollutants. In recent years, studies have reported increased water contamination from chlorine and chlorine compounds and its negative impact on aquatic ecosystems. When assessing the need for waste recycling, circularity, and stormwater reuse, it is worth evaluating the capacities of construction waste materials to reduce stormwater pollution from residual chlorine.

Thin-film composite (TFC) membranes, featuring nanoscale film thickness and customizable pore structures, hold promise for solute-solute separations. However, achieving on-demand molecular sieving requires fine control over the membrane microstructure. Here, the concept of physical and chemical dual confinement (PCDC) is introduced to fabricate loose-structured TFC membranes via confined interfacial polymerization (IP).

Sandy conglomerate reservoirs have become an important replacement area for unconventional energy to increase reserves and production. The polymer/surfactant composite control flooding system can effectively alleviate the water flooding front breakthrough caused by the interlayer or plane heterogeneity of the sand conglomerate reservoir and is an effective production method to reduce the water cutoff of the well and increase the oil recovery. In the process of controlling the oil displacement process of the system, the chromatographic separation effect was found due to the different viscosities of each component and the adsorption difference between the components and the rock, which weakened the development effect of the reservoir.

In this research, four industrial wastes were used for up to 80% as supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in cement mortar systems: ground granulated blast furnace slag, electric arc furnace slag, basic oxygen furnace slag, and waste limestone powder. Quaternary cementitious blends were prepared and studied for up to 120 days. Workability, compressive strength, durability, microstructures, and sustainability studies were performed and compared with Portland cement references.
