One of the most common causes of human death is stroke, which can be caused by carotid bifurcation stenosis. In our work, we aim at proposing a prototype of a medical expert system that could significantly aid medical experts to detect hemodynamic abnormalities (increased artery wall shear stress). Based on the acquired simulated data, we apply several methodologies for1) predicting magnitudes and locations of maximum wall shear stress in the artery, 2) estimating reliability of computed predictions, and 3) providing user-friendly explanation of the model's decision. The obtained results indicate that the evaluated methodologies can provide a useful tool for the given problem domain.

Intraluminal prosthetic graft thrombus (IPT) has been described in case of endovascular aortic pathology repair. This study aimed to assess hemodynamic indicators associated with various anatomical morphologies following endovascular aortic repair (EVAR), aiming to offer further references for the choice of clinical therapy. Six model models (normal, iliac compression, aortic compression, aortoiliac compression, iliac distortion, and long-leg stent) were established based on common anatomical morphologies following EVAR.

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a widely used surgery for portal hypertensive patients, whose potential postoperative complications are closely related to the hemodynamic condition of the portal venous system. The selection of shunt position in the surgery may affect the postoperative hemodynamics; however, it is difficult for clinical studies to investigate the influence. Therefore, this study aims to employ the computational model simulating TIPS to compare the hemodynamic differences resulting from different shunt positions, and also to investigate the influences of different geometrical model simplification strategies used in the TIPS simulation.

Objective: This study explored the value of stomach ultrasound reporting and data system (Su-RADS) and two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) in the diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the gastric wall, evaluating the feasibility of combining the two methods for the diagnosis of gastric wall lesions.

Methods: 113 patients with gastric wall lesions were examined after oral gastric ultrasound contrast agent, and the grades of the gastric wall lesions were classified according to Su-RADS. Moreover, 2D-SWE was performed to measure the E value of the lesions.

Objective: This study initiated a preliminary computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based study to investigate the relationship between quantitative hemodynamics of arteriovenous malformation (AVM) draining veins and rupture.

Methods: The quantitative hemodynamics of AVM draining veins were generated from computed tomography angiography (CTA)-based steady-state CFD models. Morphological and hemodynamic parameters were compared between the ruptured and unruptured groups.

Background: Computational modeling indicated that pathological high shear stress (HSS; 100 dyn/cm) is generated in pulmonary arteries (PAs; 100-500 µm) in congenital heart defects causing PA hypertension (PAH) and in idiopathic PAH with occlusive vascular remodeling. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a feature of PAH. We hypothesize that HSS induces EndMT, contributing to the initiation and progression of PAH.
