Tachistoscopic studies have established a right field advantage for the perception of visually presented words, which has been interpreted as reflecting a left hemispheric specialization. However, it is not clear whether this is driven by the linguistic task of word processing, or also occurs when processing properties such as the style and regularity of text. We had 23 subjects perform a tachistoscopic study while they viewed five-letter words in either computer font or handwriting.

Globally, multiple trials have successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of novel tools, such as the sterile and incompatible insect techniques, in suppressing Aedes aegypti populations. However, there is concern that Aedes albopictus, another arbovirus-competent vector, may occupy the niches vacated by Ae. aegypti in areas where these species occur in sympatry.

At the turn of the century a fundamental resolution barrier in fluorescence microscopy known as the diffraction limit was broken, giving rise to the field of super-resolution microscopy. Subsequent nanoscopic investigation with visible light revolutionised our understanding of how previously unknown molecular features give rise to the emergent behaviour of cells. It transpires that the devil is in these fine molecular details, and essential nanoscale processes were found everywhere researchers chose to look.

Objective: Timing calibration is essential for positron emission tomography (PET) system as it enhances timing resolution to improve image quality. Traditionally, positron sources are employed for timing calibration. However, the photons emitted by these sources travel in opposite directions, necessitating that positrons annihilate at multiple locations to collect coincidence data across a greater number of lines of response (LORs).

Background And Objective: Pectus excavatum is a common congenital chest wall abnormality characterized by a concave appearance of the chest, and minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE) is the surgical treatment of choice. A rapidly growing field of research is pain management in children undergoing MIRPE, with many shifts in practice occurring over the last decade. The primary objectives of this narrative review are to describe current methods of perioperative pain management and the development of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) to improve the experience of patients undergoing MIRPE.
