WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Mental health recovery is acknowledged as a process of transformation and a way of living a meaningful life despite the presence of mental ill-health. Experiencing hope has been articulated as intrinsic to service users experience of a meaningful life. The social construction of mental illness and stigma are recognised as barriers to experiencing hope.

The Cartesian System is a fundamental conceptual and analytical framework related and interwoven with the concept and applications of Newtonian Dynamics. In order to analyze quantum processes physicist moved to a Probabilistic Cartesian System in which the causality principle became a probabilistic one. This means the trajectories of particles (obeying quantum rules) can be described only with the concept of cloudy wave packets.

Fundamentally incompatible systems, their highly sophisticated conceptions of "disease" and "cure" are sufficiently divergent to prevent their peaceful coexistence. Can the best of modern scientific medicine be reconciled with this recently resuscitated "medical Lazarus"? Could a creative dialogue be established? This article explores the development of modern homeopathic thinking between 1830 and 1920, charting a discourse within homeopathy initiated in the 1830s with reference to use of "higher potencies" and disease products ("nosodes").

Both assessment and research involve methods of inquiry into a situation, and the philosophical reasoning underpinning that inquiry could be the same. The basic beliefs of the assessor or researcher determine the methods of inquiry undertaken, and postmodern constructivism offers an alternative to the present traditional approaches to community nurse practice assessment.
