Spin crossover in the cyanide-bridged Mo(V)Mn(III) single-chain magnet containing Fe(II) cations.

A 1D Mo(V)Mn(III) chain compound balanced by {Fe[HC(3,5-Me(2)pz)(3)](2)}(2+) dications was prepared. This complex displays a typical single-chain magnet character associated with the Mo(V)Mn(III) chain and a spin crossover phenomenon arising from cationic Fe(II) subunits. The spin crossover behavior tends to slightly affect single-chain magnetic properties at low temperature.

Landau-Zener tunneling, which describes the transition in a two-level system during a sweep through an anti-crossing, is a model applicable to a wide range of physical phenomena. Realistic quantum systems are affected by dissipation due to coupling to their environments. An important aspect of understanding such open quantum systems is the relative energy scales of the system itself and the system-environment coupling, which distinguishes the weak- and strong-coupling regimes.

Permanent Electride Magnets Induced by Quasi-Atomic Non-Nucleus-Bound Electrons.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Yonsei University, Seoul, 03722, Republic of Korea.

Interstitial quasi-atomic electrons (IQEs) in the quantized energy levels of positively charged cavities possess a substantial own magnetic moment and control the magnetism of crystalline electrides depending on the interaction with surrounding cations. However, weak spin-orbit coupling and gentle exchange interaction restricted by the IQEs preclude a large magnetic anisotropic, remaining a challenge for a hard magnetism. It is reported that 2D [ReC]·2e electrides (Re = Er, Ho, Dy, and Tb) show the permanent magnetism in a ferrimagnetic ground state, mimicking the ferrites composed of magnetic sublattices with different spin polarizations.

The relation between d-wave superconductivity and stripes is fundamental to the understanding of ordered phases in high-temperature cuprate superconductors. These phases can be strongly influenced by anisotropic couplings, leading to higher critical temperatures, as emphasized by the recent discovery of superconductivity in nickelates. Quantum simulators with ultracold atoms provide a versatile platform to engineer such couplings and to observe emergent structures in real space with single-particle resolution.

Metallogels built in a bottom-up approach by metal coordination and supramolecular interactions have important potential for the elaboration of smart materials. In this context, we present here the formation of supramolecular coordination polymers driven by the complexation of cobalt(II) or zinc(II) ions with polyoxometalate-based hybrids displaying two terpyridine ligands in a linear arrangement. Thanks to the electrostatic interactions between the polyoxometalate cores and metal nodes, the polymer chains self-assemble into fibers that physically cross-link to form gels above a critical concentration.

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) attract attention for their intrinsic porosity, large surface area, and functional versatility. To fully utilize their potential in applications requiring precise control at smaller scales, it is essential to overcome challenges associated with their bulk form. This is particularly difficult for 3D MOFs with spin crossover (SCO) behavior, which undergo a reversible transition between high-spin and low-spin states in response to external stimuli.
