We report two types of site-selective metal deposition methods based on colloidal crystal templating. We discuss in particular the controllability of the morphology and crystallinity of Au nanodots depending of the choice of method.

Understanding charge transport in semiconductor quantum dot (QD) assemblies is important for developing the next generation of solar cells and light-harvesting devices based on QD technology. One of the key factors that governs the transport in such systems is related to the hybridization between the QDs. Recent experiments have successfully synthesized QD molecules, arrays, and assemblies by directly fusing the QDs, with enhanced hybridization leading to high carrier mobilities and coherent band-like electronic transport.

The objective of this study is to fabricate and develop hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) hydrogel (HG)-based composite bone cements with incorporation of hydroxyapatite (HA), beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), and with/without polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) for vertebroplasty. For animal study, twenty female Wister rats (250-300 g, 12 weeks of age) were divided into four groups including a two non-ovariectomy (NOVX) groups and two ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis groups. Two prepared biocomposites including HG/β-TCP/HA and HG/β-TCP/HA/PMMA were injected into the tibial defects of both OVX and NOVX rats for evaluating in vivo osteogenesis after 12 weeks.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is an emerging modality that can address longstanding technological challenges encountered with magnetic particle hyperthermia (MPH) cancer therapy. MPI is a tracer technology compatible with MPH for which magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) provide signal for MPI and heat for MPH. A colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay (ICA) based on a dual-antibody sandwich method was developed for the rapid and convenient detection of () antigens in the early stages of infection. Monoclonal antibodies designed as 5B3 targeting the conserved region of 56 kDa outer membrane protein in various strains of were generated through cell fusion and screening techniques and combined with previously prepared polyclonal antibodies as detection antibodies to establish the ICA. Colloidal gold and polyclonal antibody-colloidal gold complexes were synthesized under optimized conditions.
