Outstanding mechanical and optical properties of diamond nanoparticles in combination with their biocompatibility have recently attracted much attention. Modification of the surface chemistry and incorporation into a polymer is required in many applications of the nanodiamond. Nanodiamond powder with reactive amino groups (∼20% of the number of surface carbon atoms in each 5 nm particle) was produced in this work by covalent linking of ethylenediamine to the surface carboxyl groups via amide bonds. The synthesized material was reacted with epoxy resin, yielding a composite, in which nanodiamond particles are covalently incorporated into the polymer matrix. The effect of amino groups grafted on the nanodiamond on the curing chemistry of the epoxy resin was analyzed and taken into consideration. Covalently bonded nanodiamond-epoxy composites showed a three times higher hardness, 50% higher Young's modulus, and two times lower creep compared to the composites in which the nanodiamond was not chemically linked to the matrix. Aminated nanodiamond produced and characterized in the present study may also find applications beyond the composites, for example, as a drug, protein, and gene delivery platform in biology and medicine, as a solid support in chromatography and separation science, and in solid state peptide synthesis.

Aim: To investigate the efficacy of nanodiamond irrigation solution with sonic agitation for removing of hard-tissue debris (HTD) within the isthmus-containing mesial roots of human mandibular molars using micro-CT analysis.
Methodology: Forty mesial roots of extracted human mandibular molars were selected based on micro-computed tomography scans (9-μm resolution). The mesial canals were mechanically prepared using ProTaper® Gold nickel-titanium rotary instruments and divided into four groups (n = 10 each) according to the final irrigation protocol: sonic agitation with nanodiamond irrigation solution for three 20-s cycles, sonic agitation with 17% EDTA for three 20-s cycles, sonic agitation with 3% NaOCl for three 20-s cycles and manual syringe irrigation with NaOCl using a 30-G needle syringe for 60 s.

Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs) possess the capability to modulate the immune response and alleviate inflammation, rendering them a promising therapeutic option for various conditions, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and tissue injuries. The osteogenic differentiation in ADSCs plays a pivotal role in fracture healing, bone growth, and the overall bone turnover process, governed by intricate interactions. Runt-related Transcription Factor 2 (RUNX2) is a key player in mineralized tissue generation and is typically found in the early stages of osteogenic differentiation.

In situ detection of dopamine (DA) at single-cell level is critical for exploring neurotransmitter-related biological processes and diseases. However, the low content of DA and a variety of distractors with similar oxidation potentials as DA in cells brought great challenges. Here, a sensitive and specific electrochemical nanosensor was proposed for in situ detection of DA in single living cells based on nanodiamond (ND) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-functionalized carbon fiber nanoelectrode (ND/MIP/CFNE).

This paper presents a study on the prospects of functionalizing nanodiamonds (NDs) with aminoacetic acid to obtain high-strength composites based on an epoxy matrix. The impact of the functionalization of the ND surface with aminoacetic acid in various concentrations on the properties of the epoxy composite was assessed. The success of grafting amine onto the ND surface was confirmed by X-ray phase analysis and IR spectroscopy.

Propranolol is currently considered as an emerging contaminant in water bodies. In this study, R- and S-propranolol were determined in river samples by electrokinetic chromatography (EKC) using nanodiamonds (NDs) and human serum albumin (HSA) as a pseudo-stationary phase in order to achieve enantioseparation. Previously, river samples were preconcentrated using a column filled with Amberlite® IR-120 and Dowex® 50WX8 resins.
