Clinical Features and Remission Rates in Cushing's Disease: A Comparison of MRI-Detectable and MRI-Undetectable Pituitary Adenomas.

Horm Metab Res

March 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Istanbul, Turkey.

We aimed to characterize the clinical features and remission rates of patients with Cushing's Disease (CD) without magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detectable pituitary adenoma compared to CD patients with MRI-detectable pituitary adenoma. All patients with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS) without MRI-detectable pituitary adenoma underwent high-dose dexamethasone suppression test, corticotropin-releasing hormone stimulation test, and/or bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS). The diagnosis of CD in patients without MRI-detectable adenoma was confirmed when the results of dynamic testing and sampling concordantly indicated ACTH-producing adenoma.

Background: Endocrine function in ponies differs from horses, with seasonally increased concentrations of plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and an increased risk of insulin dysregulation.

Hypothesis: (1) Season and breed differences exist in concentrations of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and metabolic hormones; and (2) systemic oxidative status is significantly different between ponies and horses and correlates with endocrine hormones.

Animals: Thirty-four healthy Welsh ponies and 14 healthy Quarter horses.

Introduction: There has been an emergence of evidence in the area of frozen shoulder (FS) within the past decade related to risk factors, etiology, diagnosis, and management. It has become increasingly challenging for clinicians and researchers to stay up to date in these areas, particularly with the clinical practice guidelines that are available being few and outdated. To this end, the aim of this study was to produce an international consensus on the risk factors, etiology, diagnosis and management for individuals with FS.

Immune-neuroendocrine crosstalk in mood and psychotic disorders: A meta-analysis and systematic review.

Brain Behav Immun Health

March 2025

Collaborative Antwerp Psychiatric Research Institute (CAPRI), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium.

Background: Bidirectional interactions between immune and neuroendocrine mechanisms are involved in mood and psychotic disorders, although individual studies report inconsistent and even contradictory findings on the nature of this crosstalk. Our objective was to perform an up to date systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and immune system functioning in mood and psychotic disorders.

Methods: We searched the Pubmed, Web of Science and Embase databases for studies reporting correlations between one or more HPA- and immune markers (IM) in patients with mood or psychotic disorders.

Double PitNETs: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cancers (Basel)

February 2025

Department of Hypothalamic and Pituitary Surgery, Toranomon Hospital, Minato-ku, Tokyo 105-8470, Japan.

Double pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (double PitNETs) are two distinct tumors in the same gland and are infrequent in clinical practice. In typical double PitNETs, an MRI detects two separate tumors that are diagnosed by pathology; they could also appear as a single tumor, and pathology would then identify the two independent tumors. A literature review was conducted, and 142 cases were analyzed to determine the characteristics of double PitNETs.
