Unlabelled: The purpose of this study was to compare the force loss of 1/4 inch (6.35mm) 3.5oz (99g) medium latex elastics from Ormco Corp. to non-latex elastics from ClassOne Orthodontics and Phoenix after being cycled between different temperatures. Elastics were stretched to 1.57 inches (40mm) on jigs and cycled in water baths for 4 minutes at 5 degrees C and 37 degrees C, 21 degrees C and 37 degrees C, 5 degrees C and 50 degrees C, 37 degrees C and 50 degrees C, and a control group was held at 3 degrees 7 degrees C. The force produced by new elastics and elastics after incubation was measured using a Mini 44 Instron.

Results: All elastics experienced increased force loss that correlated with increased temperatures with the exception of Ormco latex elastics. The latex elastics had the greatest force loss upon cycling between 5 degrees C and 50 degrees C while the non-latex elastics had the greatest force loss while cycling between 37 degrees C and 50 degrees C. All elastics were strongest when cycled between 5 degrees C and 37 degrees C.

Conclusion: This study suggests that hot liquids reduce the force of latex and non-latex elastics even when cycled between hot temperatures for brief periods of time.

Background/purpose: Although metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has been proposed to replace the diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with new diagnostic criteria since 2023, the genetic predisposition of MASLD remains to be explored.

Methods: Participants with data of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in the Taiwan Biobank database were collected. Patients with missing data, positive for HBsAg, anti-HCV, and alcohol drinking history were excluded.

We sought to evaluate the intracardiac morphology and associated cardiovascular anomalies in patients with double inlet right ventricle (DIRV) on multidetector CT angiography. A retrospective search of our departmental database was conducted from January 2014 to January 2023 to identify patients with a diagnosis of DIRV on CT angiography. The intracardiac anatomy and associated cardiovascular abnormalities were systematically evaluated.

Purpose: Age stratification influences the clinicopathological features and survival outcomes of breast cancer. We aimed to understand the effect of age on gene variants in young Chinese women with breast cancer compared with those from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Methods: Enrolled patients ≤ 40 years old (N = 370) underwent germline or somatic genetic testing using a 32-gene hereditary cancer panel at Fujian Union Hospital.

A Novel cold-active chitin deacetylase from Shewanella psychrophila WP2 (SpsCDA) was overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21 and employed for deacetylation of chitin to chitosan. The produced chitosan was characterized, and its antifungal activity was investigated against Fusarium oxysporum. The purified recombinant SpsCDA appeared as a single band on SDS-PAGE at approximately 60 kDa, and its specific activity was 92 U/mg.

Purpose: During endovascular revascularization interventions for peripheral arterial disease, the standard modality of X-ray fluoroscopy (XRF) used for image guidance is limited in visualizing distal segments of infrapopliteal vessels. To enhance visualization of arteries, an image registration technique was developed to align pre-acquired computed tomography (CT) angiography images and to create fusion images highlighting arteries of interest.

Methods: X-ray image metadata capturing the position of the X-ray gantry initializes a multiscale iterative optimization process, which uses a local-variance masked normalized cross-correlation loss to rigidly align a digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) of the CT dataset with the target X-ray, using the edges of the fibula and tibia as the basis for alignment.
