We report an easy approach for the synthesis of CdS Quantum Dots (CdS QDs) with high luminescence and temporal stability through the reaction of Cd(2+) and S(2-) in the presence of mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as a capping reagent in aqueous medium, under normal pressure and room temperature. The influence of several experimental variables, including temperature, pH, the Cd/S ratio and the Cd/MAA ratio, on the optical properties of the QDs obtained was studied systematically. The experimental results indicate that these variables play an important role in determining the size and state of the surface of the nanoparticles, and hence their luminescent properties and temporal stability. The general aspects of nanocrystal nucleation and growth in the synthesis of nanocrystals were studied. The best conditions for the synthesis of nanoparticles of high quality are also reported. The CdS nanocrystals obtained exhibited a narrow PL band, with reproducible room-temperature quantum yields.

In the era of atomic manufacturing, the precise manipulation of atomic structures to engineer highly active catalytic sites has become a central focus in catalysis research. Dual-atom catalysts (DACs) have garnered significant attention for their superior activity, selectivity, and stability compared to single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, a comprehensive review that integrates geometric and electronic factors influencing DAC performance remains limited.

The optical and dielectric properties of opals with different water contents were investigated using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The refractive indices and absorption coefficients showed different trends due to the different water contents. The effective medium theory was used to extract the intrinsic dielectric permittivity of opal from opal-polytetrafluoroethylene mixtures.

Weyl semimetals are a novel class of topological materials with unique electronic structures and distinct properties. HfRhGe stands out as a noncentrosymmetric Weyl semimetal with unconventional superconducting characteristics. Using muon-spin rotation and relaxation (µSR) spectroscopy and thermodynamic measurements, a fully gapped superconducting state is identified in HfRhGe that breaks time-reversal symmetry at the superconducting transition.

Up to 50% of individuals with uveal melanoma (UM), a frequent cancer of the eye, pass away from metastases. One of the major challenges in treating UM is the role of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), which mediate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumors. RTKs are involved in binding multiple growth factors, leading to angiogenesis and vasculogenic mimicry (VM) phenomena.

Collective optical properties can emerge from an ordered ensemble of emitters due to interactions between the individual units. Superlattices of halide perovskite nanocrystals exhibit collective light emission, influenced by dipole-dipole interactions between simultaneously excited nanocrystals. This coupling changes both the emission energy and rate compared to the emission of uncoupled nanocrystals.
