A microgap impedance sensor with a 50 μm gap was developed for the determination of trace water in organic solvents by coating poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) (PDMDAAC) and ferricyanide/ferrocyanide composite materials on indium tin oxide (ITO). The electrochemical properties of the composite materials were investigated with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). We observed that the impedance response of the sensor depended on the concentration of trace water in the organic solvents. Under optimized conditions, the linear range for the determination of trace water was 0-0.06% for chloroform (CHCl(3)), 0-0.10% for acetone (CH(3)COCH(3)), 0-0.12% for tetrahydrofuran (THF), and 0-0.10% for acetonitrile (CH(3)CN), and the detection limits were 0.65, 1.54, 0.61, and 1.72 ppm, respectively. The results obtained from the impedance sensors were comparable to those obtained using the traditional Karl Fischer method.

In this study, tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC), tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), and choline chloride (ChCl) were innovatively applied in the liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME) of bisphenol A (BPA) from edible oil by forming water-based deep eutectic solvent (WDES). The presence of water is not only used in the synthesis of WDES, but also modulates the viscosity of DES and improve its diffusion and mass transfer properties. Several crucial parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were examined, including the type and amount of WDES and the extraction time.

Exposure to vanadium (V) occurs through the ingestion of contaminated water, polluted soil, V-containing foods and medications, and the toxicity and absorption during the small intestine phase after oral ingestion play crucial roles in the ultimate health hazards posed by V. In this study, the human colon adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells were selected as an intestinal absorption model to investigate the uptake and cytotoxicity of vanadyl sulfate (VOSO) and sodium orthovanadate (NaVO). Our results confirmed the cytotoxic effects of V(IV) and V(V) and revealed a greater toxicity of V(IV) than V(V) towards Caco-2 cells.

Despite their potential risks to human health and the environment at ng/L to μg/L concentrations, there has been relatively little effort to measure trace organic compounds (TOrCs) in surface waters of Central America. The concentrations of eighteen TOrCs detected at eleven surface water sites in the Lempa River basin of El Salvador and four sources of drinking water for the cities of San Salvador, Antiguo Cuscatlán, Soyapango, and Santa Tecla are reported here. All samples were analyzed via liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

In this study, a green synthesis method for synthesizing a novel nanocomposite (CuO/g-C₃N₄/Fe₃O₄) utilizing renewable dragon fruit peels as the primary raw material was developed. Hydrothermal and thermal decomposition techniques were used for nanocomposite synthesis. This nanocomposite was subsequently employed for the separation and preconcentration of Cd(II) from various environments, including food and water samples.

The unreasonable use of organic dye leads to excessive residues in environmental water, which seriously threatens human health and the natural environment. In this paper, a spherical flower-like magnetic FeO@CoNi layered double hydroxide@silver nanoparticle (FeO@CoNi LDH@Ag NPs) SERS substrate was successfully fabricated electrostatic self-assembly and applied for the sensitive detection of methylene blue (MB) in environmental water. The rapid concentration and separation of the SERS substrate from the water sample could be achieved using an external magnet.
