Zn(0.97)Fe(0.03)O nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis revealed that the samples had pure ZnO wurtzite structure and Fe ions were well incorporated into the ZnO crystal lattice. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that both Fe(2+) and Fe(3+) existed in Zn(0.97)Fe(0.03)O. The result of x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) further testified that Fe ions took the place of Zn sites in our samples. Magnetic measurements indicated that Zn(0.97)Fe(0.03)O was ferromagnetic at room temperature.

Improving the adsorption capacity of materials for pollutants by means of modification is an important direction in the research of water treatment technology. To improve the applicability of sodium alginate composites in the field of adsorption, magnetic sodium alginate-based hydrogel microsphere adsorbent material FeO@SA/PEI-Fe (FSPF) was synthesized in a single step by using polyethyleneimine grafting modification of sodium alginate by sol-gel method. The material was used for the removal of direct blue GL (DB 200) and direct date red B (DR 13) from simulated wastewater, as well as Cu(II) and Pb(II) from simulated wastewater with heavy metal ions.

Facile Formation of Durable SiO-TiO Coatings on Plastic Films for Self-Cleaning and Antifogging.

Surface fogging affects the light transmittance of various transparent materials and poses potential safety hazards. Superhydrophilic TiO surfaces can effectively prevent fogging by promoting continuous water film formation; however, they often struggle to maintain stable hydrophilicity and adhesion on plastic films. Self-cleaning and antifogging coatings on plastic substrates are crucial for applications requiring long-term clarity and minimal maintenance costs.

Recalcitrant pollutants are challenging to degrade during water treatment processes. Methylene blue (MB), a cationic dye, is particularly resistant to degradation and is environmentally persistent. Heterogeneous photocatalysis has emerged as a suitable strategy for removing such pollutants from water.

Experimental and Computational Synthesis of TiO Sol-Gel Coatings.

During the experimental formation of sol-gel coatings, the colloid dispersions go through a drying process, and the structure of the coatings is formed as a result of complex chemical, colloidal, and capillary interactions. While computer simulations provide guidelines to tune and even design the nanomaterials synthesis, simulations of coating structure formation are hitherto unknown in the literature. Based on real experiments, we establish here a ReaxFF reactive force field-based molecular dynamics simulation protocol in order to investigate and determine the role of the experimental conditions on the pore structure formation in the coatings.
