In this study, wood samples were exposed to light irradiations (direct sunlight, xenon lamp, mercury vapour lamp) and thermal treatments were carried out in dry- and in humid conditions at 90°C. One part of the samples was covered by an aluminium plate during light irradiation. The samples under the aluminium plate also suffered considerable chemical changes, monitored by infrared technique and colour measurement. The sunlight produced greater colour change under the aluminium plate than the artificial light sources. During light irradiation, the carbonyl band having two maximum at 1700 and 1,746 cm(-1) increased and the peak of the aromatic skeletal vibration arising from lignin (1,510 cm(-1)) decreased together with the guaiacyl vibrations at 1,275 cm(-1). There was absorption decrease at 1,174 cm(-1) because of the ether band splitting. Under the covered surface only the ether band at 1,174 cm(-1) decreased and one carbonyl band increased with a maximum at 1,715 cm(-1). Degradation of lignin was negligible for the covered surface. Colour change generated by thermal degradation was much greater in humid condition than in dry condition.

In this study, the melt pool formation behavior of high-speed laser-arc hybrid welding of aluminum plates was simulated using finite element analysis (FEA). To evaluate the heat input efficiencies of the laser and arc, standalone laser or arc welding experiments were conducted using the same arc or laser processing parameters as those employed in hybrid welding. These experiments were also simulated using FEA to calibrate the laser and arc heat adsorption parameters.

Aluminium-lithium (Al-Li) 2060 alloy, a 3rd generation Al-Li alloy, is considered a structural material for aircraft components. This study employs the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process with a kinematic 5-axis robotic arm to weld 4-mm-thick plates of 2060-T8E30 Al-Li alloy. The focus is on the impact of tool axial force and speeds on the microstructural evolution, mechanical properties, and surface integrity of the welded joints.

Purpose: To perform vertical bone augmentation on rat parietal bone by coating the inner surface of dense polytetrafluoroethylene (d-PTFE) domes with hydroxyapatite (HA) using Erbium Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Er:YAG) pulsed laser deposition in a rat model.

Methods: The d-PTFE plate surface, α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) coating, and HA coating were measured using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction to confirm the replacement of α-TCP with HA via high-pressure steam sterilization. The dome was glued to the center of the rat parietal bone and closed with periosteal and epithelial sutures.

A rivet of aluminum and auxiliary gasket of nickel were adopted to weld A1060 aluminum plate and T2 copper plate using resistance element welding. The interfacial microstructure was analyzed and the tensile shear load of the joint was tested. A layer of AlCu and the eutectic structure of AlCu and (Al) were formed in the interfacial zone of Al/Cu.

Background: Tavaborole (TAV), a benzoxaborole derivative, is an FDA-approved antifungal agent for treating onychomycosis, a common and persistent fungal infection of the toenails.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a robust stability-indicating HPTLC method to determine TAV in nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) using a comprehensive approach that includes risk assessment, and Analytical Quality by Design.

Methods: The critical method parameters influencing the HPTLC results were screened using a Plackett-Burman screening design followed by its optimization using a central composite optimization design.
