Recent passage of a House Bill in the state of Washington led to a commentary on whether mandates for urine drug testing of pain patients represented a breach of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights of patients. Issues over true consent to such tests and potential view of warrantless searches were discussed. The authors address these concerns in a broader context of risk management and stratification efforts, along with discussion about the need for a tailored approach in this arena and consideration of cost burden for such tests. Finally, the argument is made that social justice issues need to be considered (along with issues of autonomy, beneficence, and nonmaleficence).

Oxymetholone and methasterone are anabolic androgenic steroids prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for both in-competition and out-of-competition use. Detecting metabolites of exogenous steroids is crucial for establishing doping violations, making the study of these metabolites essential in antidoping efforts. This study investigated the urinary metabolic profiles of oxymetholone and methasterone using gas chromatography-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-Orbitrap-HRMS) in nanogram level by utilizing a novel multiplex nontargeted framework protocol.

Quantification of illicit drugs and controlled substances, in urine or as surface contamination, is often performed using expensive analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). A time and cost-effective semi-quantitative surface-wipe and urine screening multiplex immunoassay for fentanyl and its analogues was developed in this investigation. We previously created a surface wipe multiplex immunoassay for methamphetamine, caffeine, cocaine, tetrahy-drocannabinol (THC) and oxycodone.

Crystals in urinary sediment are commonly recognized structures, typically identified by a combination of crystal morphology and urine pH. In this paper, we present the first reported case of EDDP (2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidene) crystals, the primary metabolite of methadone, in a 67-year-old male with hepatorenal syndrome. Routine urinalysis revealed numerous needle-shaped crystals, which prompted further investigation.

Over the past decade, Mass Administration of Medicines (MAM) has been a key strategy for controlling schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STHs) in Anambra State, Nigeria. This longitudinal study, conducted from 2017 to 2019, evaluated the impact of interventions for controlling schistosomiasis (SCH) and STHs in recipient communities. A total of 1,046 pupils aged 5 to 16 years were enrolled, with Kato-Katz and urine filtration methods used for faecal and urine sample analysis.

Purpose Of Review: This review highlights the latest findings regarding hypocitraturia in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), from both experimental and clinical studies, exploring the underlying pathophysiology and potential therapeutic approach.
Recent Findings: Experimental studies have shown that the lodging of microcrystals in the tubules can trigger cyst formation and growth in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). ADPKD patients are prone to developing hypocitraturia in early stages, which could predispose to calcium microcrystal formation.
