Article Abstract

In this study, polyaniline-multiwalled carbon nanotube film (PANi-MWCNT) has been polymerized on interdigitated platinum electrode arrays (IDA), fabricated by MEMS technology for the detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, using immobilized peptide aptamers as affinity capture reagent. Label-free, electrochemical detection of the specific immune reaction between antigen peptide aptamer HPV-16-L1 (with a molecular weight of 1825 Da), the most common genotype in cytological normal women worldwide, and its specific antibody of HPV-16 (which is much bigger with molecular weight of ca. 150 kDa) on multifunctional PANi-MWCNT based arrays was reported. The most significant advantage of this technique consists of reagentless and multiple detection of antigen-antibody complex formation on well conducting IDA interface of PANi-MWCNT, without intermediate steps or any labeling reagents, as normally required in the previous works.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) represents a significant postoperative complication after artificial femoral head replacement, with the incidence increasing proportionally with patient age. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of early postoperative use of intermittent pneumatic compression devices (IPC), followed by the combined use of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) after 48 hours, for the prevention of postoperative lower limb DVT in elderly patients undergoing hip arthroplasty. The retrospective study included 100 elderly patients who underwent unilateral femoral head replacement.

Introduction: The Society for Pediatric Anesthesia Quality and Safety Committee developed the Pediatric Regional Anesthesia Time-Out Checklist, consisting of 14 safety items intended to be reviewed by an anesthesia team prior to a regional anesthetic. Primarily, we hypothesized that use of this Checklist would increase the number of safety items performed compared with no checklist, evaluating the usefulness of this tool. Secondarily, we hypothesized that, after checklist training, subjects would show better clinical judgment by electing to perform a regional anesthetic in scenarios in which no programmed error existed and electing to not perform a regional anesthetic in scenarios in which a programmed error did exist.

Hybrid potato breeding based on diploid inbred lines is transforming the way of genetic improvement of this staple food crop, which requires a deep understanding of potato domestication and differentiation. Here, we resequenced 314 diploid wild and landrace accessions to generate a variome map of 47,203,407 variants. Using the variome map, we discovered the reshaping of tuber transcriptome during potato domestication, characterized genome-wide differentiation between landrace groups Stenotomum and Phureja, and identified a jasmonic acid biosynthetic gene possibly affecting tuber dormancy period.

Coronaviruses continue to disrupt health and economic productivity worldwide. Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a devastating swine disease and SARS-CoV-2 is the latest coronavirus to infect the human population. Both viruses display a similar spike protein on the surface that is a target of vaccine development.
