Aim: To explore the change of serum leptin level and its clinical significance in the patients with IgA nephropathy.

Methods: A total of 40 IgA nephropathy patients were divided into group A (unnecessary for hemodialysis regimen) and B group (requisite for hemodialysis regimen). Other 20 healthy people for health examination homeochronously in our hospital were used as the control group (C group). The radioimmunoassay(RIA) was performed to detect the serum leptin contents of all the individuals and to analyze its clinical significance.

Results: The mean serum concentrations (MSCs) of A, B and C group were (4.98 ± 0.78) μg/L, (6.45 ± 0.76) μg/L and (3.96 ± 0.56) μg/L, respectively. And the MSCs before and after dialysis of group B patients were (6.50 ± 0.86) μg/L and (5.21 ± 0.66) μg/L, respectively. Statistical analysis indicated that the MSCs of group A and B were significantly higher than that of group C, and group B was obviously higher than that of group A (P<0.05). The MSC before dialysis was statistically higher than that after dialysis in group B (P<0.05).

Conclusion: The serum leptin was significantly increased in IgA nephropathy patients, which may be significant in the progression of IgA nephropathy.
