Nitric oxide (NO) has been defined as the "miracle molecule" due to its essential pleiotropic role in living systems. Besides its implications in physiologic functions, it is also involved in the development of several disease states, and understanding this ambivalence is crucial for medicinal chemists to develop therapeutic strategies that regulate NO production without compromising its beneficial functions in cell physiology. Although nitric oxide synthase (NOS), i.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a potentially malignant disorder with no permanent cure that affects the quality of life due to trismus. Computational pharmacology has accelerated the discovery of drug candidates for the treatment of incurable diseases. The present study aimed to screen the compounds of the miracle herb with drug-likeness properties based on the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) properties.

May 2024

Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials (MOE), School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 10084, P. R. China.

The exploration of 2D materials has captured significant attention due to their unique performances, notably focusing on graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). Characterized by closely resembling atomic structures arranged in a honeycomb lattice, both graphene and h-BN share comparable traits, including exceptional thermal conductivity, impressive carrier mobility, and robust pi-pi interactions with organic molecules. Notably, h-BN has been extensively examined for its exceptional electrical insulating properties, inert passivation capabilities, and provision of an ideal ultraflat surface devoid of dangling bonds.

Xanthohumol (Xn), a prenylated chalcone found in Hop ( L.), has been shown to have potent anti-aging, diabetes, inflammation, microbial infection, and cancer properties. Unfortunately, this molecule has undesirable characteristics such as inadequate intake, low aqueous solubility, and a short half-life.

Is it a miracle that life exists on the Earth, or is it a common phenomenon in the universe? If extraterrestrial organisms exist, what are they like? To answer these questions, we must understand what kinds of molecules could evolve into life, or in other words, what properties are generally required to perform biological functions and store genetic information. This review summarizes recent findings on simple ancestral proteins, outlines the basic knowledge in textbooks, and discusses the generally required properties for biological molecules from structural biology viewpoints (e.g.
