59 (105 eyes) patients with initial, premature and mature cataract are studied. Besides 14 patients (19 eyes) 1-2 years after cataract phacoemulsification with IOL implantation were examined. All patients underwent routine ophthalmological examination and tonography. Average indexes of intraocular hydrodynamics coefficients differed from normal rates: in initial and premature cataract F- coefficient was lower by 34% compared to normal, in mature cataract it was higher by 8,9% than upper limit of normal, in pseudophakia by 86,8% lower. In all groups with cataract patients disbalance of intraocular hydrodynamics was revealed in more than 70% cases, and in pseudophakia group it was found in 100%. Disbalance of intraocular hydrodynamics in cataract confirms hypothesis that intraocular hydrodynamics failure is an important part of cataract etiopathogenesis.

Background And Objective: The conventional aqueous outflow pathway, which includes the trabecular meshwork (TM), juxtacanalicular tissue (JCT), and inner wall endothelium of Schlemm's canal (SC) and its basement membrane, plays a significant role in regulating intraocular pressure (IOP) by controlling aqueous humor outflow resistance. Despite its significance, the biomechanical and hydrodynamic properties of this region remain inadequately understood. Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling using high-resolution microstructural images of the outflow pathway provides a comprehensive method to estimate these properties under varying conditions, offering valuable understandings beyond the capabilities of current imaging techniques.

The corneal endothelium is responsible for pumping fluid out of the stroma in order to maintain corneal transparency, which depends in part on the expression and activity of sodium-potassium pumps. In this study, we evaluated how physiologic pressure and flow influence transcription, protein expression, and activity of Na+/K+-ATPase. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: This study was conducted to develop a new optimized phacoemulsification technique for Morgagnian cataract taking into account the anatomical and topographic parameters of the lens nucleus.
Material And Methods: A working classification of Morgagnian cataract was developed based on the size of the nucleus: if the edge of the nucleus is visualized at the upper edge of the pupil or between the upper edge and the middle of the pupil, it was classified as an initial stage of Morgagnian cataract with a large nucleus; if the upper edge of the nucleus is visualized in the middle of the pupil and below, it was classified as an advanced stage of Morgagnian cataract with a small nucleus. The first group included six patients who underwent surgery using the scaffold technique with removal of the whole small nucleus into the anterior chamber.
Purpose: To compare intraoperative performance and early postoperative outcomes following phacoemulsification with two systems using active fluidics and one using gravity-based fluidics.
Methods: In this prospective randomized trial, 200 eyes were randomized to the traditional and Active Sentry groups (n = 80 eyes each) where the Centurion Vision System was used with traditional or Active Sentry (Alcon Laboratories, Inc) hand-pieces, respectively, or the Infinit group (n = 40 eyes) where the Infiniti Vision System (Alcon Laboratories, Inc) was used. Within the traditional and Active Sentry groups, there were two subgroups with low (30 mm Hg) or high (55 mm Hg) intraocular pressure (IOP) used.
