A differentiation between chronic relapsing abdominal pain and acute pain is necessary in children. Whilst only 5 - 10 % of the cases of chronic abdominal pain have an organic correlate, such is almost always present in acute abdominal pain. In this chapter we will deal only with the acute abdominal pain in children. It is essential to realize that abdominal pain, especially in small children, can occur even if there is no organic correlate in the abdomen. Pneumonia or even urinary infections may result in acute abdominal pain. The age of the child is crucial in establishing the diagnosis, as typical diseases occur only within a certain age range. In this chapter we present the most typical diseases in children with acute abdominal pain.

Objective: To describe the presentation, outcomes, and management strategies for cases of subcapsular liver hematoma associated with preeclampsia, eclampsia, or HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome.
Methods: This was a case series of individuals with subcapsular liver hematoma managed at a single level IV center over a 10-year period, from 2013 to 2024. Presenting signs and symptoms, laboratory findings, time of onset, management strategies, acute perinatal and maternal outcomes, and long-term outcomes such as subsequent pregnancies were reviewed in the medical record and recorded.

A 69-year-old Japanese man developed abdominal pain, purpura, proteinuria, and hematuria while receiving treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis. A skin biopsy revealed IgA-positive leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and a renal biopsy showed IgA-positive mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis with crescent formation. Based on these findings, we diagnosed IgA vasculitis with nephritis (IgAVN) and initiated treatment.

We present Enterocytozoon bieneusi infection in four patients with autoimmune diseases undergoing prolonged monoclonal antibody therapies. Two patients suffered from inflammatory bowel disease and received anti-TNF therapies, whereas two other patients suffered from systemic lupus erythematosus with renal involvement and received anti-CD20 or anti-BLyS protein therapies. Three out of four patients consulted for diarrhea with abdominal pain without intestinal inflammation or bleeding at the time of sampling.

He presented to the emergency department with a two-week history of fever, perianal pain, an erythematous, warm, and actively draining mass.
