Congenital hand anomalies can cause substantial functional problems. There are multiple situations where there is lack of stable pinch and/or grasp that can be improved by surgical intervention. An example of reconstructive surgical intervention in each of three specific congenital hand anomalies is presented: hypoplastic thumb, absence of the fingers, and insufficient length and stability of the digits. Focus is on the approach to the patient, surgical treatment and the goals achieved. It is important to mention that other techniques may be preferred by other surgeons, and may also yield excellent results.

Background: Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) presentation includes gross distorted ramus, malposition temporomandibular joint, small glenoid fossa, distorted condyle and notch, malformed orbit, cupping ear or absent external ear, and facial nerve palsy. HFM is the second most prevalent congenital deformity of the face, with little literature from the South African population. This retrospective study elucidated the demographic characteristics and clinical presentations of HFM patients in a select South African population and compared it to the literature.

Background: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a congenital disorder characterized by multiple joint involvement, primarily affecting limb mobility and leading to various tissue contractures. Variations in the RIPK4 gene may impact connective tissues, thereby resulting in a spectrum of malformations. This study aimed to identify the genetic etiologies of AMC patients and provide genetic testing information for further diagnosis and treatment of AMC.

The 'different-body/different-concepts hypothesis' central to some embodiment theories proposes that the sensory capacities of our bodies shape the cognitive and neural basis of our concepts. We tested this hypothesis by comparing behavioral semantic similarity judgments and neural signatures (fMRI) of 'visual' categories ('living things,' or animals, e.g.

Split-hand/foot malformation syndrome (SHFM) is a congenital limb malformation that is both clinically and genetically heterogeneous. Variants in WNT10B are known to cause an autosomal recessive form of SHFM. Here, we report a patient born to unrelated parents who was found to be a compound heterozygote for missense variants in WNT10B: c.
