Detection thresholds for gaps and overlaps, that is acoustic and perceived silences and stretches of overlapping speech in speaker changes, were determined. Subliminal gaps and overlaps were categorized as no-gap-no-overlaps. The established gap and overlap detection thresholds both corresponded to the duration of a long vowel, or about 120 ms. These detection thresholds are valuable for mapping the perceptual speaker change categories gaps, overlaps, and no-gap-no-overlaps into the acoustic domain. Furthermore, the detection thresholds allow generation and understanding of gaps, overlaps, and no-gap-no-overlaps in human-like spoken dialogue systems.

Background: Distal tibial deformities are not assessed using the proximal anatomical axis (PAA) to determine the posterior tibial slope (PTS). Therefore, it seems advantageous to measure PTS on full-length lateral tibial radiographs using the mechanical axis (MA).

Purposes: To (1) compare the PTS measurements using the MA and the PAA and (2) determine whether using the PAA fails to detect a certain number of significantly elevated PTS values compared with using the MA.

Previous studies have shown that perceptual performance can be modulated at specific frequencies phase-locked to self-paced motor actions, but findings have been inconsistent. To investigate this effect at the population level, we tested 50 participants who performed a self-paced button press followed by a threshold-level detection task, using both fixed- and random-effects analyses. Contrary to expectations, the aggregated data showed no significant action-related modulation.

Pharmacokinetics is the study of the movement of drug in the body and includes the processes of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. Pharmacodynamics is the pharmacologic effect of the drug on the body. The pharmacokinetics of a drug determines its pharmacologic effect.

Due to mode coupling, a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is required in orbital angular momentum (OAM) modular division multiplexing (MDM) systems to improve transmission performance. In this paper, a cascade delta-sigma modulation (CDSM) scheme is proposed for OAM-MDM intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) transmission. Different from the traditional DSM (TDSM) scheme, the scheme is divided into signal modulation and in-band noise modulation, in which the in-band noise modulation is used to further decrease the quantization noise generated in the signal modulation.
