8-Hydroxyquinolin-N-oxide was found to be a very efficient ligand for the copper-catalyzed hydroxylation of aryl iodides, aryl bromides, or aryl chlorides under mild reaction conditions. This methodology provides a direct transformation of aryl halides to phenols and to alkyl aryl ethers. The inexpensive catalytic system showed great functional group tolerance and excellent selectivity.

The direct transformation of methane into C oxygenates such as acetic acid selectively using molecular oxygen (O) is a significant challenge due to the chemical inertness of methane, the difficulty of methane C-H bond activation/C-C bond coupling and the thermodynamically favored over-oxidation. In this study, we have successfully developed a porous aluminium metal-organic framework (MOF)-supported single-site mono-copper(ii) hydroxyl catalyst [MIL-53(Al)-Cu(OH)], which is efficient in directly oxidizing methane to acetic acid in water at 175 °C with a remarkable selectivity using only O. This heterogeneous catalyst achieved an exceptional acetic acid productivity of 11 796 mmol mol h in 9.

This study introduces a novel methodology for the direct construction of tetrasubstituted centers, utilizing secondary C(sp)-H and C(sp)-H substrates, specifically indolin-2-ones and indoles, through an innovative oxidative cross-coupling reaction. Facilitated by a straightforward copper salt catalyst, this reaction proceeds efficiently at a mild temperature of 40 °C under operationally streamlined conditions. Emphasizing sustainability, this method is notably enhanced by employing air (molecular oxygen) as an eco-friendly oxidant.

Enrichable Protein Footprinting for Structural Proteomics.

Protein footprinting is a useful method for studying protein higher order structure and conformational changes induced by interactions with various ligands via addition of covalent modifications onto the protein. Compared to other methods that provide single amino acid-level structural resolution, such as cryo-EM, X-ray diffraction, and NMR, mass spectrometry (MS)-based methods can be advantageous as they require lower protein amounts and purity. As with other MS-based proteomic methods, such as post-translational modification analysis, enrichment techniques have proven necessary for both optimal sensitivity and sequence coverage when analyzing highly complex proteomes.

Hydroxylated (hetero)arenes are privileged motifs in natural products, materials, small-molecule pharmaceuticals and serve as versatile intermediates in synthetic organic chemistry. Herein, we report an efficient Cu(I)/6-hydroxy picolinohydrazide-catalyzed hydroxylation reaction of (hetero)aryl halides (Br, Cl) in water. By establishing machine learning (ML) models, the design of ligands and optimization of reaction conditions were effectively accelerated.
