A method to achieve NMR of dilute samples in the earth's magnetic field by applying para-hydrogen induced polarization is presented. Maximum achievable polarization enhancements were calculated by numerically simulating the experiment and compared to the experimental results and to the thermal equilibrium in the earth's magnetic field. Simultaneous 19F and 1H NMR detection on a sub-milliliter sample of a fluorinated alkyne at millimolar concentration (∼10(18) nuclear spins) was realized with just one single scan. A highly resolved spectrum with a signal/noise ratio higher than 50:1 was obtained without using an auxiliary magnet or any form of radio frequency shielding.

The widespread use of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets has raised concerns about the environmental impact of their disposal, prompting the need for sustainable recycling strategies. Traditional solvents used in recycling are toxic and flammable, making them risky to use. Ionic liquids are safer and greener options with low vapor pressure, high stability, and less flammability.

Plants will form the basis of artificial ecosystems in space exploration and the creation of bases on other planets. Astrophysical factors, such as ionizing radiation (IR), magnetic fields (MF) and gravity, can significantly affect the growth and development of plants beyond Earth. However, to date, the ways in which these factors influence plants remain largely unexplored.

Forward modeling the magnetic effects of an inferred source is the basis of magnetic anomaly inversion for estimating subsurface magnetization parameters. This study uses numerical least-squares Gauss-Legendre quadrature (GLQ) integration to evaluate the magnetic potential, anomaly, and gradient components of a cylindrical prism element. Relative to previous studies, it quantifies for the first time the magnetic gradient components, enabling their applications in the interpretation of cylindrical bodies.

In situ measurements of the chemical identity and quantity of anode gases during electrochemical measurements and rare earth (RE) electrolysis from fluoride-based molten salts composed of different kinds of rare earth oxides (REOs) were performed using FTIR spectrometry. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was carried out to characterize oxidation processes and determine the anodic effect from NdF + PrF + LiF + REO melt. RE complex formation and subsequent reactions on the GC anode surface were discussed to understand the formation pathways of CO/CO and perfluorocarbon gases (PFC), mainly CF and CF.

Modified basalt microfiber-reinforced polyurethane elastomer composites were prepared by a semi-prepolymer method with two different silane coupling agents (KH550 and KH560) in this study. Infrared spectroscopy was used to quantify the degree of microphase separation and analyze the formation of hydrogen bonding in polyurethane. The interfacial surface and the morphology of fibers and composites from tensile fracture were examined by a scanning electron microscope.
