Early diagnosis of muscle wasting in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury requiring continuous kidney replacement therapy (AKI-CKRT) may improve outcomes timely rehabilitation and nutrition. Muscle ultrasound (MUS) has recently gained traction for assessing muscle atrophy in the intensive care unit (ICU) but requires training to achieve reproducibility. We evaluated the inter-rater reliability of MUS in patients with AKI-CKRT performed by multidisciplinary raters including nephrologists.

Background: Destabilizing injuries to the deltoid ligament have relied on radiographic stress examination for diagnosis, with a focus on medial clear space widening. Increasingly, Portable ultrasound has also been used in the clinical setting, allowing dynamic and non-invasive evaluation at the point of care. The aim of this study was to determine whether portable ultrasound can detect medial sided instability associated with supination-external rotation type ankle injuries during the gravity stress, weightbearing, and external rotation stress.

Ultrasound examination for detecting fractures is ideally suited for Emergency Departments (ED) as it is fast, safe (from ionizing radiation), has dynamic imaging capability, and is easily portable. High variability in manual assessment of ultra-sound has piqued research interest in automatic assessment using Deep Learning (DL). Most DL techniques are trained on large labeled datasets which is expensive and requires many hours of careful annotation.

Diabetes, a prevalent chronic disease, necessitates effective blood glucose monitoring to manage and mitigate its serious complications. Recent studies have introduced a novel approach for implantable continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) utilizing glucose-sensitive smart hydrogel-based resonator sensing elements with ultrasound (US) readout. By using mechanically compliant and potentially highly biocompatible smart hydrogel materials as well as medical ultrasound, this approach provides an effective and minimally invasive CGM solution.

This paper offers a contemporary, evidence-based perspective on how point of care ultrasonography imaging (POCUS) has the potential to impact orthopedic and sports physical therapists' examination and treatment. Clinical use of POCUS has increased in medicine and is emerging in physical therapist practice. Greater affordability, portability, ease of use, and evidence supporting its' diagnostic value have contributed to increased use.
