Equilibrium experiments with bone powder, at pH values ranging from 6.3 to 3.5, show a linear relation between log([Ca2+]/[Ca2+]0) (where [Ca2+]0 = 1 M-Ca2+) and pH, indicating that [Ca2+] could reach levels of 25 mM at pH 5 and 90 mM at pH 4. These elevated Ca2+ concentrations stimulated the lysis of insoluble bone collagen in vitro by purified lysosomes and by mouse bone collagenase, whose activities were additive at acid pH. At neutral pH, the addition of 10-100 mM-CaCl2 did not influence the susceptibility of acid-soluble skin collagen in solution towards bone collagenase, but increased it markedly towards collagen in the fibrillar form. Increasing the [Ca2+] did not influence the susceptibility of collagen to trypsin. Elevated [Ca2+] and a co-operation between lysosomal cysteine proteinases and matrix collagenase could thus participate in the osteoclastic breakdown of bone collagen.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effects of deproteinized bovine bone mineral with collagen (DBBMC) combined with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) on facial alveolar bone augmentation in the anterior maxillary region.
Materials And Methods: Patients receiving dental implant placement with simultaneous lateral bone augmentation using DBBM (control group) or DBBMC combined with DBBM (test group) were included in the study. The radiographic assessment of facial alveolar bone, such as facial horizontal bone thickness (FHBT), facial vertical bone level (FVBL), and square of facial bone (SFB), was taken by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Background: Clonal myeloproliferation and fibrotic transformation of the bone marrow (BM) are the pathogenetic events most commonly occurring in myelofibrosis (MF). There is great evidence indicating that tumor microenvironment is characterized by high lactate levels, acting not only as an energetic source, but also as a signaling molecule.
Methods: To test the involvement of lactate in MF milieu transformation, we measured its levels in MF patients' sera, eventually finding a massive accumulation of this metabolite, which we showed to promote the expansion of immunosuppressive subsets.

Sinus membrane perforations are among the most commonly reported intraoperative complications encountered during maxillary sinus floor elevation procedures performed via the lateral window approach. Large perforations (> 10 mm) can pose a major clinical challenge, and often result in failed bone augmentation and poorer long-term implant survival. Owing to these challenges, even a highly skilled oral implant surgeon with advanced training in implantology faced with such perforations may abandon grafting procedures in favor of a reentry approach.

This split-mouth trial investigated the efficacy of treating bilateral gingival recessions with either a xenogeneic cross-linked collagen matrix (CCM), or recombinant human platelet derived growth factor (rhPDGF-BB) with a bone allograft (AG). Ten patients were treated with the coronally advanced flap (CAF), either with a CCM, or rhPDGF-BB + AG. The primary outcome was percentage of mean root coverage (mRC) at 12 months.

Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by decreased bone mineral density and a heightened risk of fractures. Therapies for OP have primarily focused on balancing bone formation and bone resorption, but enhancing the remineralization of osteoporotic bone is also a key strategy for effective repair. Recent insights into biomineralization mechanisms have highlighted the essential role of mineral-containing extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by osteoblasts in promoting bone marrow mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (BMSC) differentiation and initiating matrix mineralization.
