To investigate the separations of all aldopentoses (ribose, arabinose, xylose and lyxose) and aldohexoses (glucose, galactose, allose, altrose, mannose, gulose, idose and talose) on the D₆ stationary phase prepared by the reaction of chloromethylated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,6-diaminohexane, we examined the effect of varying the concentration of the NaOH eluent on the elution orders. Separations of these aldoses were achieved using a 20 mM NaOH eluent. The elution behaviors of the aldoses were probably due to not only the individual pK(a) values, but also the chemical structures of the cyclic aldoses.

How to retrieve and reuse surfactants efficiently from surfactant-based microemulsions (MEs) has long been a problem, which is full of challenges and needs to be solved urgently. To this end, a pH-triggered precipitation-dissolution (PTPD) strategy is developed. The surfactant sodium 3-(laurylamino)propane-1-sulfonate (LMPS) transforms into an insoluble precipitate (the inner salt of LMPS, LMP) after reaction with HCl, by which the monophasic LMPS-based MEs demulsified entirely, giving a separable mixture of oil, water and LMP.

Generally, the pH of fluorinated groundwater or many industrial wastewater is neutral, while the majority of metal-modified adsorbents can work efficiently only under acidic conditions. In this study, we synthesized a novel hybrid adsorbent, Mg-Zr-D213, by loading nano-Mg/Zr binary metal (hydrogen) oxides in a strong-base anion exchanger, D213, to enhance the adsorption of fluoride from neutral water. Mg-Zr-D213 exhibited a better fluoride-removal capacity in neutral water than monometallic modified resins.

We established an innovative and easy-to-use methodology for selenium (Se) extraction and determination from real water samples utilizing a magnetic nanocomposite adsorbent (MNC-SPE) aided by an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) approach. The MNC-SPE adsorbent was fabricated by hybridizing FeO nanoparticles on the surface of carbon nitride nanosheets (GCN NSs) that were coated with 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ionic liquid (P-IL). A variety of techniques were used to thoroughly analyze the structural and chemical characteristics of MNC-SPE, and appear to have a great number of diverse active surface functional units (imidazole ring and -NH).

Carbon-coated ZrO/Mn-Mg-Zn ferrites nanostructures (CZ-FN) have been prepared as a new inorganic sorbent to remove Cs (I) and Sr (II) from a waste stream. Adsorption of Cs (I) and Sr (II) has been implemented considering different noteworthy parameters, for example, shaking time and the optimum time achieved high adsorption capacity of both ions [103 and 41 mg/g for Sr (II) and Cs (I)] was found 30 min. Also, the impact of pH values was studied; the best pH value for the adsorption process is pH 6.
