The six-coordinate Sn(IV) atom in the title compound, [Sn(C(7)H(6)F)(2)Cl(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))], shows a trans-C(2)SnN(2)Cl(2) octa-hedral coordination [C-Sn-C = 174.81 (10) and 176.71 (9)° in the two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit]; the Cl atoms are cis to each other as are the N atoms of the chelating N-heterocycle.

Fulfilment of energy demand by utilizing renewable energy sources that do not contribute to the production of greenhouse gases is a step forward in mitigating global warming. However, with the energy sources being intermittent in nature, renewable energy needs to be stored effectively on a grid scale. In this context, the development of redox-flow batteries has emerged as a promising technology where charging and discharging processes are accomplished by the redox shuttling of the electrolytes, namely anolytes and catholytes.

The endogenous reduction of nitrite to nitrosyl is drawing increasing attention as a protective mechanism against hypoxic injury in mammalian physiology and as an alternative source of NO, which is involved in a wide variety of biological activities. Thus, chemical mechanisms for this transformation, which are mediated by metallo proteins, are of considerable interest. The study described here examines the reactions of the biomimetic models Co(TTP)(NO) (TTP = meso-tetratolylporphyrinato dianion) and Mn(TPP)(ONO) (TPP = meso-tetraphenyl-porphyrinato dianion) in sublimated solid films with hydrogen sulfide (HS) and with ethanethiol (EtSH) at various temperatures from 77 K to room temperature using in situ infrared and optical spectroscopy.

The structure-activity relationship between the metal center and regio-selectivity is persistently a pivotal scientific issue. To address this, we select the 2-phenylpyridine sulfonylation reactions catalyzed by ruthenium and palladium as research subjects. An extensive theoretical study has been conducted on their reaction mechanisms, the sources of regio-selectivity, and the evolution of electronic structures.

The development of responsive MRI contrast agents to detect fluctuations in Zn(II) is a growing area of research. Here we describe a high-spin Fe(III) coordination complex, Fe(ADAPT), as one of the first examples of an Fe(III) MRI probe that is responsive to Zn(II). The six-coordinate Fe(ADAPT) contains a phenolate-appended 1,4,7-triazacyclononane (TACN) ligand framework, with the phenolate groups linked to a Zn(II) binding moiety.
