Article Abstract

The title compound, C(24)H(29)N(3)O(5)S, is a chiral mol-ecule which crystallizes in a centrosymmetric space group as a racemate. The thia-zolidine ring forms the dihedral angles of 29.22 (12) and 67.79 (10)° with the benzene and pyridine rings, respectively. The benzene and pyridine rings are tilted by dihedral angle of 67.18 (9)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network.

Endowing single-crystal polymers with circularly polarized luminescence.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Key Laboratory for Photochemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

The preparation of single-crystal polymers with circularly polarized luminesce (CPL) remains a challenging task in chemistry and materials science. Herein, we present the single-crystal-to-single-crystal topochemical photopolymerization of a chiral organic salt to achieve this goal. The in-situ reaction of 1,4-bis((E)-2-(pyridin-4-yl)vinyl)benzene (1) with chiral (+)- or (-)-camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) gives the monomer crystal 1[( + )/( - )-CSA] showing yellow CPL with a high luminescent dissymmetry factor |g| of 0.

π-Lewis Base Activation of Carbonyls and Hexafluorobenzene.

We report hitherto elusive side-on η2-bonded palladium(0) carbonyl (anthraquinone, benzaldehyde) and arene (benzene, hexa-fluorobenzene) palladium(0) complexes and present the catalytic hydrodefluorination of hexafluorobenzene by cyclohexene. The comparison with respective cyclohexene, pyridine and tetrahydrofuran complexes reveals that the experimental ligand binding strengths follow the order THF < C6H6 < C6F6 < cyclohexene < pyridine < benzaldehyde < anthraquinone. To understand this surprising order, the complexes' electronic structures were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), single crystal X-Ray diffraction (sc-XRD), ultraviolet/visible (UV/Vis) electronic absorption, infrared (IR) vibrational, Pd L3-edge X-ray absorption (XAS), and X-ray photoelectron (XP) spectroscopic techniques, complemented by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations including energy decomposition (EDA-NOCV) and effective oxidation state (EOS) analyses.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed the profiles of non-volatile compounds like caffeine and chlorogenic acid in coffee extracts, using an electronic tongue (E-tongue) to assess taste attributes such as sourness, bitterness, and saltiness.
  • - Volatile compounds responsible for coffee's aroma were identified, with 2-Furanmethanol, benzene ethanol, nonanal, and pyridine detected through an electronic nose (E-nose) and GC-MS-O techniques.
  • - Neurophysiological effects showed that inhaling coffee volatiles led to different brain wave activations in men and women, while drinking coffee produced similar effects by activating mid-beta waves in both sexes.

Influence of monosaccharides and lipids on protein structure and solubility-Reaction simulation of sludge thermal hydrolysis system.

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, China. Electronic address:

During the hydrothermal treatment process, sludge proteins can interact with other organic matter, thereby affecting protein structure and altering protein solubility. This paper investigates the effects and causes of monosaccharides and lipids on protein structure and solubility during thermal hydrolysis of sludge. The results indicated that monosaccharides increase protein solubility by preventing the conversion of proteins into free amino acids.
