Carotid plaques-the buildup of cholesterol, calcium, cellular debris, and fibrous tissues in carotid arteries-can rupture, release microemboli into the cerebral vasculature and cause strokes. The likelihood of a plaque rupturing is thought to be associated with its composition (i.e.

The dermoscopic rainbow pattern (RP), also known as polychromatic pattern, is characterized by a multicolored appearance, resulting from the dispersion of polarized light as it penetrates various tissue components. Its separation into different wavelengths occurs according to the physics principles of scattering, absorption, and interference of light, creating the optical effect of RP. Even though the RP is regarded as a highly specific dermoscopic indicator of Kaposi's sarcoma, in the medical literature, it has also been documented as an atypical dermoscopic finding of other non-Kaposi skin entities.

Objective: This study aimed to develop 3 models based on computed tomography (CT) images of patients with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia (CFD): a radiomics model (Model Rad), a deep learning (DL) model (Model DL), and a hybrid radiomics and DL model (Model Rad+DL), and evaluate the ability of these models to distinguish between adolescents with active lesion progression and adults with stable lesion progression.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed preoperative CT scans from 148 CFD patients treated at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital. The images were processed using 3D-Slicer software to segment and extract regions of interest for radiomics and DL analysis.

Electrospun nanofiber films exhibited significant potential as food freshness indicators (FFI) due to their structural advantages. Herein, a novel electrospinning film based on wheat gluten (WG), gelatin, and anthocyanins was fabricated to detect the freshness of shrimp. Compared with pure WG, an adjusted ratio of the WG to gelatin (W16E9, 16:9) improved physicochemical properties, reducing viscosity from 3.

Prefilled syringes (PFS) are primary packaging materials that offer convenience and safety for subcutaneous injection of parenteral drug solutions. However, an increasingly common problem with the trend towards higher drug concentrations is the clogging of the needle during storage due to evaporative water loss and consequent solidification of the drug. In contrast to all previous studies on this topic, this work focuses on pharmacokinetically relevant aspects and investigates the effects of needle clogging on the spatial distribution of the injected drug in the tissue.
