Sublimation of alkali halides (NaCl and LiCl) onto a pre-assembled hydrogen-bonded layer of TCNQ on Au(111) resulted in the formation of 2D ionic layers via a direct charge-transfer reaction without involvement of the substrate. The presented approach allows for the fabrication of different ionic layers, decoupled from the substrate and offering new, potentially interesting properties.

Solid-state lithium (Li) metal batteries (SSLMBs) have garnered considerable attention due to their potential for high energy density and intrinsic safety. However, their widespread development has been hindered by the low ionic conductivity of solid-state electrolytes. In this contribution, a novel Li-rich transport mechanism is proposed to achieve ultrafast Li-ion conduction in composite solid-state electrolytes.

Potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) have emerged as promising candidates for low-cost, high-energy storage systems, driven by their fast ionic conductivity and high operating voltage. To develop advanced KIBs, the performance is usually evaluated in half-cell tests using highly reactive potassium metal, which often leads to misinterpretation of the results due to degradation processes between metal anode and electrolyte components. Here, we systematically investigated the surface reactivity of potassium metal, which is in contact with commonly used solvent combinations, namely, mixtures of ethylene carbonate and linear bis(alkyl)carbonates.

A cost-effective strategy is reported utilizing ionic liquid (IL), 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bisulfate ([HMIM] HSO), to delaminate TiC MXene, thereby enhancing its efficiency in electrocatalyzing tryptophan (Trp) oxidation. The positively charged IL effectively intercalates within the negatively charged MXene layers, fostering structural stability through π-π stacking and electrostatic interactions. Consequently, the resulting IL-TiC composite not only maintained the inherent electronic conductivity of TiC but also significantly augmented its electrocatalytic prowess.

Rutin, a promising bioactive hydrophobic compound, suffers from poor physicochemical stability, resulting in low bioavailability. Herein, we used positively charged chitosan and negatively charged fucoidan as biopolymers coating rutin-nanoliposome (RNL) via electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly approach to prepare fucoidan/chitosan-coated rutin-nanoliposome (FC-RNL). The FC-RNL exhibited the encapsulation efficiency of 77.

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) integrated with commercial transistors are promising sensing platforms characterized by enhanced device uniformity, functional diversity, and electrical output stability. Aptamers with charged backbones and a high affinity for target molecules are anticipated to mitigate the limitations imposed by Debye screening in physiological environments with high ionic strength, thereby facilitating specific biological recognition in complex surroundings. This study presents two reliable OFET aptasensors for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and offers a systematic comparison of their performance.
