We present insightful results on the kinetics of photodarkening (PD) in Ge(x)As(45-x)Se55 glasses at the ambient and liquid helium temperatures when the network rigidity is increased by varying x from 0 to 16. We observe a many fold change in PD and its kinetics with decreasing network flexibility and temperature. Moreover, temporal evolution of PD shows a dramatic change with increasing x.

We present a new analytical instrument for studying the optical properties of materials in different gaseous environments at room and controlled elevated temperatures. The system consists of a vacuum chamber, which is equipped with temperature and pressure controllers, a heating band, and a residual gas analyzer and is connected to a gas feeding line via a leak valve. Two transparent view ports located around a sample holder allow for optical transmission and pump-probe spectroscopy using an external optical setup.

The photosensitivity of amorphous chalcogenide thin films brings out light-induced changes in the nonlinear and linear optical parameters upon sub-bandgap and bandgap laser irradiation. The present work reports the laser irradiated changes in the optical properties of AsSeSb thin films. The thermally evaporated film showed an exponential decrease in optical bandgap and increase in Urbach energy.

Photoluminescence (PL) of organolead halide perovskites (OHPs) is sensitive to OHPs' surface conditions and is an effective way to report surface states. Literature has reported that at the ensemble level, the PL of photoexcited OHP nanorods declines under an inert nitrogen (N) atmosphere and recovers under subsequent exposure to oxygen (O). At the single-particle level, we observed that OHP nanorods photoblink at rates dependent on both the excitation intensity and the O concentration.

In this study, the role of a zinc acetate precursor in improving the luminescence stability of purple-emitting CdS nanocrystals is investigated. The oleate-capped core of CdS nanocrystals exhibits intense photodarkening under prolonged UV excitation. From the results of photoluminescence experiments, we can observe that photobleaching is responsible for the degradation of temporal stability, , decline in photoluminescence intensity.

Two-Photon Photochemistry of CdSe Quantum Dots.

ACS Nano

Chemistry and Chemical Biology, University of California Merced, 5200 North Lake Road, Merced, California 95343, United States.

The two-photon photochemistry of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) has been systematically studied. We find that upon intense irradiation CdSe quantum dots that absorb two or more visible photons undergo photodarkening. The quantum yield for this process is on the order of 6% in chloroform and much smaller in nonpolar solvents, such as octane.
