Serving as a dedicated process analytical technology (PAT) tool for biomass monitoring and control, the capacitance probe, or dielectric spectroscopy, is showing great potential in robust pharmaceutical manufacturing, especially with the growing interest in integrated continuous bioprocessing. Despite its potential, challenges still exist in terms of its accuracy and applicability, particularly when it is used to monitor cells during stationary and decline phases. In this study, data pre-processing methods were first evaluated through cross-validation, where the first-order derivative emerged as the most effective method to diminish variability in prediction accuracy across different training datasets.

Improving physical balance among older workers is essential for preventing falls in workplace. We aimed to elucidate the age-related decline in one-leg standing time with eyes closed, an indicator of static balance, and mitigating influence of daily walking habits on this decline in Japan. This longitudinal study involved 249 manufacturing workers, including seven females, aged 20-66 years engaged in tasks performed at height in the aircraft and spacecraft machinery industry.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been widely used as efficient and environmentally friendly catalysts due to their high specific surface area and abundant active sites. However, AuNP-based catalytic systems face several challenges, including the instability of AuNPs during the reaction, the difficulty in monitoring the process, which can easily result in insufficient reaction due to short reaction time or waste of resources due to long reaction time, as well as issues of catalyst recovery. This study proposes a novel catalyst integrating various functions, such as high stability, the capacity for real-time monitoring of the catalytic process, and rapid recycling.

Background: Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is a crystalline solid that belongs to the aromatic amine group, widely used in the manufacturing of various dyes. PPD exhibits toxic effects on female hormone stability, ovarian function, and embryo development. Although studies have shown that PPD exposure can damage oocyte quality in female mice, research on its effects on male reproductive capability, particularly on human sperm quality and function, is limited.

Prevalence and type of removable prostheses manufactured in dental laboratories in Switzerland over the last 10 years.

Swiss Dent J

January 2025

Division of Gerodontology and Removable Prosthodontics, University Clinics of Dental Medicine, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland.

Due to effective preventive measures and advanced techniques in operative dentistry, tooth loss occurs later in life and implant restorations have become a common solution for replacement of missing teeth. Therefore, the use of removable dental prostheses (RDPs) is expected to decline over time. This study aims to evaluate the expected decrease in the production of RDPs in Swiss dental laboratories over the past decade.
