Background: Xylazine is a α2-adrenergic receptor agonist, used for sedation in veterinary contexts. Although it is increasingly found in overdose deaths across North America, the clinical management of xylazine-involved overdoses has not been extensively studied, especially in community-based harm reduction settings. Here we present a clinical series of xylazine-involved overdose and share the clinical approach and lessons learned by a community overdose response team in Tijuana, Mexico amidst the arrival of xylazine.

The guidelines from the European and American Societies for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy discourage endoscopic retrieval of drug bags in body stuffers. However, recent evidence challenges this stance, demonstrating successful bag retrieval without fatal outcomes. We present two distinct cases illustrating varying outcomes of intervention.

Objectives: To evaluate the effects of postoperative pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy on fat digestion and absorption in patients following initial total pancreatectomy.
Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from patients who underwent initial total pancreatectomy at our department between 2012 and 2020. Fat digestion, absorption functions, serum nutritional markers, HbA1c levels, and hepatic steatosis before and after the initial total pancreatectomy were evaluated.

BACKGROUND Terminal ileum (TI) anastomoses present challenges due to anatomical features and pressure from the ileocecal valve (ICV). The use of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is commonly used to treat chronic skin ulcers. Its use for temporary abdominal closure following anastomosis is controversial but has shown promise in patients with inflammatory or vascular disease.
