Premise Of The Study: Microsatellite primers were developed in the traditional Tibetan medicinal plant Halenia elliptica D. Don to investigate its genetic diversity and population genetic structure.
Methods And Results: Using the Fast Isolation by AFLP of Sequences Containing (FIASCO) repeats protocol, 24 primer sets were identified in two wild populations. Of these primers, 12 displayed polymorphisms and 12 were monomorphic. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 6, with a mean of 3.9. The expected (H(E)) and observed (H(O)) heterozygosities ranged from 0.191 to 0.784 and from 0.417 to 0.917, respectively. All these primers successfully amplified in two close relatives of H. elliptica, Swertia bimaculata (Siebold & Zucc.) Hook. f. & Thomson ex C. B. Clarke and S. tetraptera Maxim.
Conclusions: These markers will facilitate further studies on the population genetics of Halenia elliptica and its allied species.

Members of (Pucciniaceae, Pucciniales) are known as plant pathogens worldwide, which are characterized by their morphology, host association, and molecular data of various genes. In the present study, 10 specimens of were collected from four herbaceous plants (, and ) in China and identified based on morphology and phylogeny. As a result, 10 samples represent four undescribed species of , viz.

Delimiting species requires multiple sources of evidence. Here, we delimited two varieties of (Gentianaceae) using several lines of evidence, including morphological traits and mating system in a sympatric population, phylogenetic relationships based on nrITS and cpDNA (rpl16) data, and complete chloroplast genome sequences. Comparative analysis of 21 morphological traits clearly separates the two varieties of .

The transition from outcrossing to selfing is a common evolutionary trend in flowering plants, and floral traits change significantly with the evolution of selfing. Whether or not plant traits are subjected to selection remains an open question in species with mixed mating systems. We examined phenotypic selection in two populations of with different selfing rates.

Background: Although the effect of cold stratification on seed dormancy release has been extensively studied for many species, knowledge of the role of stratifying temperature, soil moisture content and duration of stratification on seed dormancy release at the population level is limited. Here, we aimed to determine the response of seed dormancy release to these factors in six populations of Halenia elliptica.
Results: Seed dormancy release was more responsive to low than high temperatures, and no dormancy break occurred at 8 °C.
