The consolidation of colloidal particles in drying colloidal dispersions is influenced by various factors such as particle size and shape, and interparticle potential. The capillary pressure induced by the menisci, formed between the top layer of particles in the packed bed, compresses the bed of particles while the constraints imposed by the boundaries result in tensile stresses in the packing. Presence of flaws or defects in the bed determines its ultimate strength under such circumstances. In this study, we determine the asymptotic stress distribution around a flaw in a two-dimensional colloidal packing saturated with liquid and compare the results with those obtained from the full numerical solution of the problem. Using the Griffith's criterion for equilibrium cracks, we relate the critical capillary pressure at equilibrium to the crack size and the mechanical properties of the packed bed. The analysis also gives the maximum allowable flaw size for obtaining a crack-free packing.

Phase engineering strategies in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDs) have garnered significant attention due to their potential applications in electronics, optoelectronics, and energy storage. Various methods, including direct synthesis, pressure control, and chemical doping, have been employed to manipulate structural transitions in 2D-TMDs. Metal intercalation emerges as an effective technique to modulate phase transition dynamics by inserting external atoms or ions between the layers of 2D-TMDs, altering their electronic structure and physical properties.

In this study, we investigate the phase behavior and structural organization of colloidal particles in a two-dimensional (2D) system under isotropic harmonic confinement using overdamped Langevin dynamics simulations. We employ a modified mermaid potential, which introduces an additional short-distance term resulting in a null-force region, distinct from the conventional mermaid potential. This modification facilitates a richer exploration of self-assembled structures, revealing a variety of phases influenced by the interplay between confinement strength V0 and the interaction potential.

In this study, we used two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy to examine the early femtosecond dynamics of suspensions of colloidal gold nanorods with different aspect ratios. In all samples, the signal distribution in the 2D maps at this timescale shows a distinctive dispersive behavior, which can be explained by the interference between the exciting field and the field produced on the nanoparticle's surface by the collective motion of electrons when the plasmon is excited. Studying this interference effect, which is active only until the plasmon has been dephased, allows for a direct estimation of the dephasing time of the plasmon of an ensemble of colloidal particles.

We examine the collective motion in computational models of a two-dimensional dusty plasma crystal and a charged colloidal suspension as they approach their respective melting transitions. To unambiguously identify rearrangement events in the crystal, we map the trajectory of configurations from an equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation to the corresponding sequence of configurations of local potential energy minima ("inherent structures"). This inherent structure (IS) trajectory eliminates the ambiguity that arises from localized vibrational motion.

Over the last decades, the release and occurrence of organic pollutants in aquatic systems have become a major global concern due to their bioaccumulation, toxicity, and adverse effects on the ecosystem. Tetracycline (TC), a widely used antibiotic, is often found at high concentrations in the aqueous environment and tends to bind with the natural colloids. Post-COVID-19 pandemic, the release of surfactants in the environment has increased due to the excessive use of washing and cleaning products.
