Hexagonal mesoporous silica modified with carboxylic acid (SiAc) has been obtained by reaction between chloroacetic acid and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, which was immobilized on porous material by a sol-gel process in the presence of an n-dodecylamine template. SiAc was characterized by TG, FT-IR, (29)Si NMR, (13)C NMR, SEM, surface charge density, surface area and porous diameter, which proved that the carboxylic group was chemically bonded to an inorganic structure, and the material presented a nanometric structure with spheres <50 nm and porous diameter of 10 nm. Herbicides 2,4-D and picloram were anchored on SiAc porous gel to produce the materials named SiD and SiPi, respectively. The controlled release of picloram from the SiAc was less than that of 2,4-D. After 26 days of releasing, 4.43 × 10(-5) mol L(-1) of picloram was delivered by SiPi, and 5.0 × 10(-5) L(-1) was released from the SiD in 30 days.

In this study, we demonstrate a novel and efficient fabrication methodology for nonclose-packed, two-dimensional (2D) colloidal crystals exhibiting square lattice structures. In our recent work, we detailed the formation of 2D colloidal crystals via the electrostatic adsorption of three-dimensional (3D) charged colloidal crystals onto oppositely charged substrates. These 3D colloidal crystals possessed a face-centered cubic (FCC) lattice structure with their (111) planes aligned parallel to the substrate, facilitating the formation of 2D crystals with triangular lattice arrangements upon adsorption.

Self-Healing Superhydrophobic Coatings with Multiphase Repellence Property.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Centre for Advanced Laser Manufacturing (CALM), School of Mechanical Engineering, Shandong University of Technology, Zibo 255000, P. R. China.

Developing versatile, scalable, and durable coatings that repel various matters in different service environments is of great importance for engineered materials applications but remains highly challenging. Here, the mesoporous silica microspheres (HMS) fabricated by the hard template method were utilized as micro-nanocontainers to encapsulate the hydrophobic agent of perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (F13) and the corrosion inhibitor of benzotriazole (BTA), forming the functional microsphere of F-HMS(BTA). Moreover, the synthesized organosilane-modified silica sol adhesive (SMP) and F-HMS(BTA) were further employed as the binder and functional filler to construct a superhydrophobic self-healing coating of SMP@F-HMS(BTA) on various engineering metals through scalable spraying.

Constructing Activatable Photosensitizers Using Covalently Modified Mesoporous Silica.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, China.

The combination of photosensitizers (PSs) and nanomaterials is a widely used strategy to enhance PS efficacy and broaden their applicability. However, the current nanocarrier-based delivery strategies focus on conventional PSs, neglecting the critical issue of PS phototoxicity. In this study, DHUOCl-25, an activatable PS (aPS) activated by hypochlorous acid, is synthesized by combining a silicon source structure and an activation unit.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate extrinsic tooth stain removal and whitening efficacy of two experimental dentifrices containing (i) 5% sodium tripolyphosphate (STP)/1% micronized alumina or (ii) 5% STP/1% micronized alumina with abrasive silica (ED2) compared to a regular fluoride dentifrice (RFD) following 8 weeks of use.

Materials And Methods: This was a single-center, randomized, controlled, blind, three-arm, stratified, parallel-group study. Eligible participants underwent clinical assessment of stain on the facial/lingual surfaces of maxillary and mandibular teeth using the modified Lobene stain index (MLSI), and shade of the facial surfaces of the central and lateral maxillary incisors using the VITA Bleachedguide 3D-Master (VITA) shade guide.
