We correlate findings from magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and pathology in a 55-year-old woman with spindle cell carcinoma of the breast. Pathological examination showed a fibrous capsule at the margins and abundant fibromyxoid stroma within the mass. Spindle cell carcinoma may be included in the differential diagnosis of expanding round masses with internal components that demonstrate rapid initial enhancement with high signal intensity on T(2)-weighted images in postmenopausal women.

Background: SET domain-containing protein 4 (SETD4) is a histone methyltransferase that has been shown to modulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammatory responses by regulating histone H4 trimethylation (H4K20me3). Previous reports have demonstrated its function in the quiescence of cancer stem cells as well as drug resistance in several cancers. A limited number of systematic studies have examined SETD4's role in the tumor microenvironment, pathogenesis, prognosis, and therapeutic response.

Primary renal BCOR::CCNB3 sarcoma in a female patient: case report.

J Pathol Transl Med

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Ulsan University Hospital, Ulsan, Korea.

BCOR-rearranged sarcoma was classified by the World Health Organization in 2020 as a new subgroup of undifferentiated small round-cell sarcoma. It is known to occur very rarely in the kidney. This report presents the first case of a primary renal BCOR::CCNB3 sarcoma in a 22-year-old woman.

Mitochondrial Rho-GTPase 1 (MIRO1) is an outer mitochondrial membrane protein which regulates mitochondrial transport and mitophagy in mitosis. In present study, we reported the crucial roles of MIRO1 in mammalian oocyte meiosis and its potential relationship with aging. We found that MIRO1 expressed in mouse and porcine oocytes, and its expression decreased in aged mice.

Elongator is a microtubule polymerase selective for polyglutamylated tubulin.

EMBO J

January 2025

Cell Biology Division, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Francis Crick Avenue, Cambridge, UK.

Elongator is a tRNA-modifying complex that regulates protein translation. Recently, a moonlighting function of Elongator has been identified in regulating the polarization of the microtubule cytoskeleton during asymmetric cell division. Elongator induces symmetry breaking of the anaphase midzone by selectively stabilizing microtubules on one side of the spindle, contributing to the downstream polarized segregation of cell-fate determinants, and therefore to cell fate determination.

Digital pathology is now a standard component of the pathology workflow, offering numerous benefits such as high-detail whole slide images and the capability for immediate case sharing between hospitals. Recent advances in deep learning-based methods for image analysis make them a potential aid in digital pathology. However, A significant challenge in developing computer-aided diagnostic systems for pathology is the lack of intuitive, open-source web applications for data annotation.
